A solid O’fest - semi-dry and herbal up front, followed by a mouthful of munich malt, maybe some caramel as well - crisp finish, yet semi-sweet and bready at the same time - I could down a few steins of this.

Cask at the Hop Devil Grill. Color is dark amber, cannot see through it but is rather translucent. Aroma is very present - first seems like its a spiced up lager. Pumpkinny in a way with other winter spices. Taste is muddled but in the realm of most octoberfest. Feels heavier than most though. Oily mouthfeel as well. Weird aftertaste, a bit off putting. I seem to be at a loss to really describe this beer. In the end it wasnt too enjoyable and I only drank half of it. Maybe octoberfests werent meant for casks?

500ml swingtop - completely clear bright straw color, with substantial, but quick-fading head - lightly sweet aroma of honey and bread yeast, with some background grassy, herbal hops - medium-bodied and very smooth - quite earthy and floral - light buttery, bready flavors - very subtle honey flavor, with some mild fruity esters - some dry, mineral notes in the finish - a really solid lager.

Light amber pour with nice, lasting white lace - full, almost toasted hop aroma, with a nice background caramel sweetness, some bready malt, light herbs, gingerbread - not overwhelming hops in the flavor, but just enough to give you a nice dose - perfect malt backbone balance - those Cascades really come through and last throughout - long, toasty, hop and bread yeast finish - delicious - reminds me of what Hop Devil used to taste like.

Sampled at the Odds and Ends Tasting on 8/16/06: Pours a dark chestnut color with a thin beige head and spotty lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel and brown sugar, as well as some citrus and pine. Rich body with a resiny mouthfeel. Flavors of vanilla, oak and caramel. Slight alcohol burn on the back of the tongue. The finish is well-rounded with bittersweet chocolate and roasted malt. Very enjoyable.
