Description

0.33 l bottle from 'Bierothek', bottled in November 2019. A little hazy, orangeish amber with a thin, frothy, almost stable, white head. Slightly sweetish, sourish, gently fruity aroma of rhubarb, lemon, light barnyard and a touch of sauerkraut. Slightly sweet, moderately bitter, quite sour and gently fruity taste of lemon, rhubarb, sauerkraut, passion fruit and light barnyard, followed by a short, gently tart, slightly bitter finish. Medium body, slightly astringent and gently effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Well-balanced Sour IPA, really refreshing.

31/I/20 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ nieuwjaarsetentje (De Brug), BB: 18/I/20, bottled: 18/VII/19 (2020-79)

Little cloudy dirty rusty brown to bordeaux purple red beer, big aery irregular purplish head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: pretty fruity, cherries, some raspberries, fruity, funky, sourish impression. MF: lively carbon, medium body. Taste: fruit fruity, nice acidity, some tannins, cherries, bit of vinegar, bitter touch, very fruity, berries, jam. Aftertaste: more acidity, tannins, bit lemony, bitter, lovely stuff, love it!

Paired nicely with braised pork cheeks with black olives and chorizo.

0.33 l bottle from 'Beyond Beer', bottled in April 2019, cellared for about half a year. Clear, very dark ruby to black with a medium large, foamy, almost stable, light brown head. Sweetish, malty, quite roasty, gently woody, vinous-fruity and slightly funky aroma of dark chocolate, licorice, coffee, red wine, red berries and some wood. Gently sweet, malty, fairly roasty, a little sourish, moderately vinous-fruity and a bit funky taste of dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, leather, red berried, red wine and oak, followed by a medium long, fairly roasty-bitter, minimally sourish, slightly funky, gently vinous, a bit woody-dry finish. Medium body, minimally astringent and gently effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Very complex Stout, still nicely drinkable rather than being a sipper. Leans towards an Oud Bruin/Flanders Red while the Stout character remains dominant. Very good, I like it a lot better than (the first batch of) the regular version of 'Käte'.

Bottle, just around MHD, 4.7%. cloudy straw with a big lasting head. Slightly sour grapefruit-lemon nose. Very smooth taste for natural fermentation, barely funky. Dry light sour flavor with bitterness in the middle which smoothly fades. Lemon, bitter orange peel, spicy (without herbs no less), nice.

330ml bottle @ Chez Sophie. Hazed golden appearance, good white head. Aroma is yeasty, lightly spicy. Taste is smooth, doughy sweet yeast, very light plum presence, expected more after the vibrant blackcurrant of the Imperial Fil. Some soft funk, distant spice. Fine but a little more flavour definition would be welcome.
