Bottle @ Hotelroom, Denver. Pours dark golden with a huge offwhite head. Aroma is malt, caramel, toast, grassy hops. Taste is sweet, slightly burned caramel, grassy hops. Medium body, soft carabonation. 110411

Nice ruby-tinted copper and rust coloured body with a frothy tan head that leaves a speckled lace. Aroma of wheat, alcohol, soap, cleanser, perfume and a touch of pine. Medium-bodied; Strong barley and alcohol flavours with caramel and toffee really strong behind. Aftertaste is quite potent with a lot of sweetness, a little fruits (apples and pears) and even more alcohol noticeable. Overall, an okay beer - but not really on the level of traditional Barley Wines, showing in every characteristic, but not necessarily a horrible beer. I sampled this 65 cL (too big) bottle purchased from Liquor Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 11-July-2010 sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 02-April-2011.

Much more balanced, tasty and complex than their "regular" black ipa I had on tap a few months ago - kind of the best of imperial ipa and imperial stout here - black with a creamy tan head - nose is almost all IIPA at first, with assertive, resinous green hop character - seriously dank, woody - some black malt character hiding underneath - silky mouthfeel, full body - wonderful balance of assertive, moderately acidic hops and hefty, stouty maltiness - alcohol is perfectly masked - pretty freaking delicious.

Tap at Falling Rock - seriously black pour, looking much like an imperial stout - thick tan head - don’t know the abv on it, but it seemed to pack quite a punch, occasionally to its detriment, as the alcohol was quite noticeable, especially as it warmed, becoming a bit fusely in the finish - aside from this, though, the beer was assertive and complex - intense woody hop character that worked well off of the strong roasted malt character, and complimented the dry-ish notes of anise and bakers chocolate presented - intensely bitter but not abrasive - a lot of dry woody character throughout - aside from the strong alcohol, it is a good representation of the style.

Aroma: The nose is malty with caramel, toast, earth, and some spice
Appearance: It pours a dark orangish brown color, tan head, decent amount of lace
Flavor: It tastes somewhat sweet with, lots of toasty caramel, and some earth hop for balance
Palate: A medium-full body, lively carbonation, and a slightly sticky mouthfeel with a tingly finish
Overall Impression: This is a pretty solid beer. A fairly interesting attempt at this German style from Fort Collins. It isn't anything overly exciting, but it's a spring seasonal, and it finally feels like spring today, so this one is enjoyable for sipping while I watch the tourney.

33 cL bottle. Pours cloudy to hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is dry wooden and smoked. Smoked, bitter and roasted malty. Ends dry malty and light smoked.

clear orange , smooth white head. aroma is slightly smoked, some peppery spicy notes. flavor is slightly spicy, flowery, dry, in fact a little bitter from smoke and spices. nice.

Palate: The body is medium-full with a somewhat syrupy mouthfeel and some heat on the finish
Overall Impression: This stuff was not too shabby. Nothing overly wonderful either, but enjoyable and drinkable. Perhaps a bit too much on the sugary and boozy side for the style, but I'd drink this one again.
