Description
“It started back in 2013, with a glass of beer. Razvan, my brother, invited me to Beer O’Clock in the Old Town area, the only craft beer pub in Bucharest at that moment. He handed me a glass of Punk IPA by Brewdog and told me it will change what I thought I knew about beer. After drinking it, I felt like I was lied my entire life, imprisoned in a box. It is unbelievable how much more a simple glass of beer can offer you, more than what I drank before.
…we realized no one was doing it in Romania and we thought: What if we make a brewery?” – Alin Matache, owner Ground Zero.

With an initial investment of about 100.000 euro won at poker and after many attempts to find the best recipes and the “fight” to obtain all authorizations, Alin and Razvan opened the craft beer studio Ground Zero Beer on 1st of April 2015 in Baneasa, Bucharest.

TAP at BCBF 2017. Hazy straw, creamy white head. Strong white bread, dough and wheat flour, more like a Czech pilsner. Similar taste - pleasantly grainy and slightly fruity, light crisp spicy bitterness. A very nicely done kolschner.

Bottle in trade with ciocanelu, cheers Silviu! Pours dark amber with a lasting beige head leaving good lacing. Aroma of nutmeg, ginger, pumpkin and toffee. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness, touch of sour. Toward medium body, slight oily and watery texture, soft carbonation. Pretty decent brew.

Bottle shared at Viniloteca. Semi-hazy amber pour with a tan head. Notes of citrus hops, fruit yogurt, yeast, malt sugars. A bit too lactic, cheesy. Not nearly as good as their imperial IPA.

Bottle at Viniloteca. Semi-hazy amber pour with an off-white head. Notes of fresh pineapple, pine resin, malt sugars, citrus hops. Juicy, smooth mouthfeel, medium body and carbonation, hoppy bitter finish. Classic west-coast hop profile, really well executed.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Cloudy muddy amber, off-white head. Smells of ripe citrus pulp, overripe peach, sweet fruity but not really malty. Not much resins, if any, just a little pithy and dank. The taste is juicy, but in a sweet fruity way, not really the ’hopjuice’ ne-ipa fashion. The mouthfeel is pretty soft, thanks to all the suspended solid matter. Low to moderate bitterness with a citrusy/zesty note. Quite good, if a bit too sweet.

Bottle at Kanaal - Sofia. Pours deep brown with a creamy, tan head. The nose holds ashy roast, burnt leaves, dry cocoa. Light sweet flavour with lots of bitter chocolate notes, moderate roast, scorched earth. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Dry and ashy on the finish, with burnt toast, more bitter earth. Not bad.

From a beershop in Sofia. Pours a hazy pale golden color, topped with a gushing white head, foamy and not stable. Spicy nose, barnyard and a bit of funk - not too intense though. Taste is slightly spicy with medium bitterness, a bit funky with a light body. Slight soury touch and abit of yeast. Nice saison.

Bottle, batch 71, bb 05.04.17 (from bibliotek, Timisoara). Pours dark golden. Aroma is hoppy hoppy, citrus, malt, biscuits. Flavor is sweet and bitter, citrus, peach, malt, biscuits. Finish is grapefruit bitter. Overall: bit APA-ish, but otherwise solid modern ipa. Best "craft" i have tried in Romania.
