Description
“It started back in 2013, with a glass of beer. Razvan, my brother, invited me to Beer O’Clock in the Old Town area, the only craft beer pub in Bucharest at that moment. He handed me a glass of Punk IPA by Brewdog and told me it will change what I thought I knew about beer. After drinking it, I felt like I was lied my entire life, imprisoned in a box. It is unbelievable how much more a simple glass of beer can offer you, more than what I drank before.
…we realized no one was doing it in Romania and we thought: What if we make a brewery?” – Alin Matache, owner Ground Zero.

With an initial investment of about 100.000 euro won at poker and after many attempts to find the best recipes and the “fight” to obtain all authorizations, Alin and Razvan opened the craft beer studio Ground Zero Beer on 1st of April 2015 in Baneasa, Bucharest.

12oz bottle at Cat and Mouse in Plovdiv, pours a hazy gold with lots of frothy white head. Gushed some too. Nose of coriander, grist flour, white pepper, straw, grass, lemon peel. Flavor is very spritzy with lemon and lime, peppery, coriander seed, some light paper. Finishes spritzy. Seems a bit infected.

TAP at Bucharest Craft Beer Festival. Hazy dark amber brown. Sweet and spicy nose, ginger and a touch of cinnamon. Medium sweet taste, spicy but not over the top. Somewhat harsh bitter finish. Not bad for a ginger beer.

SEP-2017. Bottled as ”Deranj Oranj”. Clear bright gold, sediment, creamy white head. Hints of white bread and orange-flavoured powdered soft drink. Similar taste, soda - a bit artificial. Still, not bad overall. 5-4-5-3-11=2,8.

AUG-2016. Tap at the brewery, as „Orange Wheat Ale”.
Hazy golden, ivory creamy head with god retention. Smells of fresh malts and orange-flavoured candies, whole orange jam, slightly rotten orange peel. Similar taste, mostly neutral (for a wheat beer) with a slightly bitter finish. Ok. 6-4-6-3-14=3,3.

10-MAR-2018. Bottle, batch 159, bb 12.06.2018. Beautiful cloudy bright gold, big white head. The aroma is full one fruit juice, fresh ripe oranges, canned pineapple, almost no resins. The taste is just as fruity, but this time with a little bit of mouth coating citrus peel hop resins. A tad overcarbonated. Excellent. 7-4-8-4-16=3,9.

29-SEP-2017. DRAFT at Ground Zero Bar. Hazy pale gold/borsch, creamy white head. Ripe citrus and pith, some overripe sweet fruit. Similar taste, light but not watery. Light pithy bitterness. Nice and quenching. 7-4-7-3-14=3,5.

5-AUG-2016. BOTTLE 33 CL from Liquor Store Cluj. Hazy yellow-golden, big fluffy white head. Aroma: subtle flowers and fruit, wild herbs. A little muted, but the hops are definitely there. Subtle palest malts. Taste: subtle pale malts, herbal and piney hops, moderate soft bitterness. Light, yet with enough body. I think it had ever so slight acetic note to it and the carbonation was a bit too lively - so, it might have not been at its prime. 6-3-7-3-14=3,3

Bottle, purchased at Viniloteca. Drink by December 15, 2016. Pours hazy reddish Amber, medium beige head, nice residual and lacing. Aroma is floral and grapefruit hops, caramel. Flavor is light plus sweet, light plus bitter, pine resin, grapefruit, light caramel. Medium body. This is a pretty solid example of a red IPA, and should be getting better ratings than this.

Bottle. Pours quite hazy Amber, small beige head, decent lacing. Aroma is pine, floral notes, something weird, pickle, brett. Flavor is light plus sweet, light bitter, noticeable Brett funk. Medium body. Why the hell is this a Brett IPA??? Although i have no complaints.
