…we realized no one was doing it in Romania and we thought: What if we make a brewery?” – Alin Matache, owner Ground Zero.
With an initial investment of about 100.000 euro won at poker and after many attempts to find the best recipes and the “fight” to obtain all authorizations, Alin and Razvan opened the craft beer studio Ground Zero Beer on 1st of April 2015 in Baneasa, Bucharest.
Roasted malt, licorice, caramel, chocolate, roasted coffee, coconut, sour cherries. Complex but a bit unbalanced. 3.9

Hazy golden amber, almost no head. The aroma is mostly coffee, the acrid/manure/fermented vegetation variety - earthy roast, spent beans, wet grass - minimal crystal sugars and fruity esters in the background. And... No hops? At all? The taste is also coffee-driven, moderare malts, roasty acrid coffee bitterness. And no hops. One of the weakest beers from this brewery.

Opaque black, dark espresso head. The aroma is rather sweet chocolate, rich and sticky and candyish, lots of coconut, some coconut oil bitterness. The taste is rather sweet too, really sweet chocolate and treacle, as well as coconut flakes. Then there's enough spicy hop / coconut oil bitterness that really saves it, making this enjoyable desert still feel like a beer. So, even though it is way too far into the pastry territory, it has a certain smoothness - does not feel cheap, and the balance is enjoyable in the end. A good one.

Cloudy golden, bright enough, off-white head. The aroma is juicy citrus, oranges and tangerines, with some bitter pith echoes. No actual malts or sugars, but the sheer density points to a higher gravity brew. Similar taste - moderately sweet orange juice, restrained pithy bitterness, not much zesty sharpness. Again, no proper malty sweetness, and it feels quite easy drinking, but the taste is big enough not to let one forget the abv. Fresh, clean, no high hop rate oxidation problems. Very solid.

BOTTLE 33 CL from Berero. Hazy orange, big off-white head with lacing. Smells of citrus peel, tutti frutti chewing gum and some grass. The taste has a light weight tropical fruit profile, moderate fresh fruit sweetness and a moreish pungent bitterness.
