Description
“It started back in 2013, with a glass of beer. Razvan, my brother, invited me to Beer O’Clock in the Old Town area, the only craft beer pub in Bucharest at that moment. He handed me a glass of Punk IPA by Brewdog and told me it will change what I thought I knew about beer. After drinking it, I felt like I was lied my entire life, imprisoned in a box. It is unbelievable how much more a simple glass of beer can offer you, more than what I drank before.
…we realized no one was doing it in Romania and we thought: What if we make a brewery?” – Alin Matache, owner Ground Zero.

With an initial investment of about 100.000 euro won at poker and after many attempts to find the best recipes and the “fight” to obtain all authorizations, Alin and Razvan opened the craft beer studio Ground Zero Beer on 1st of April 2015 in Baneasa, Bucharest.

Many thanks to ciocanelu for this bottle. The beer starts fresh and malty with floral piney hops. Not too dry but lots of dry roasted malt together with nice bitter floral hops. Very nice stuff. The aftertaste is dry and fresh malty, roasted hints with dry and bitter fresh floral hops. Great!

Many thanks to ciocanelu for this bottle. The beer starts intense floral hoppy. Lots of carbonation but also lots of pine and resin. Extremely fresh and floral. The body has hints of grain, malt and floral hops. Quite dry. The aftertaste is moderate bitter, intense floral with a nice bitter-herbal hoppy aftertaste. Very nice!

Many thanks to ciocanelu for this bottle. Smooth and intense floral with lots of great hops. Pine, resin together with a full-bodied and not too sweetish beer. Hints of grain, fresh and round, nice and typical. Great intense brew!

Keg at Kanaal - Sofia, Bulgaria. Pours clear, rich gold with a frothy white head. Juicy citrus in the nose, some pale bread, tangerine. Light-medium sweet flavor with moderate pale bread, some crust, rindy citrus, orange and tangerine, light pine. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Nicely balanced finish, some pectin, more vibrant citrus, balancing pale malt sugars, straw, rind. A well made IPA. Very drinkable.

Tap. Pours cloudy brown amber, medium creamy off-white head, nice lacing. Aroma is caramel, pine, a bit of citrus in there somewhere. Flavor is medium sweet and medium bitter, quite malty, almost more of an English than the professed American IPA. Lingering bitter finish. Medium body. Kinda home-brewy in a way, but a solid first effort to make a drinkable beer that is a bit different that what everybody else is churning out right now.

Tap @Beer O’Clock - yay a new Romanian Brewery! Pours hazy Arnold Palmer, medium very creamy off-white head, nice lacing. Aroma is extremely light, basically a bit of biscuit and thats it. Flavor has more going on, medium sweet and very light bitter, a bit of licorice, some herbal spiciness, biscuit. Medium body, inoffensive, and serves the purpose of an easy drinking session ale.
