Description
“It started back in 2013, with a glass of beer. Razvan, my brother, invited me to Beer O’Clock in the Old Town area, the only craft beer pub in Bucharest at that moment. He handed me a glass of Punk IPA by Brewdog and told me it will change what I thought I knew about beer. After drinking it, I felt like I was lied my entire life, imprisoned in a box. It is unbelievable how much more a simple glass of beer can offer you, more than what I drank before.
…we realized no one was doing it in Romania and we thought: What if we make a brewery?” – Alin Matache, owner Ground Zero.

With an initial investment of about 100.000 euro won at poker and after many attempts to find the best recipes and the “fight” to obtain all authorizations, Alin and Razvan opened the craft beer studio Ground Zero Beer on 1st of April 2015 in Baneasa, Bucharest.

SEP-2018. Draft at BCBF 2018. Super hoppy and resiny. Very good. (I think the hopped up version of their porter have replaced their cmore classic version.) 7-3-8-4-16=3,8.

MAR-2016. BOTTLE 33 CL. Almost pitch black, but with pretty clear ruby highlights, nice beige head. Smells of coffee beans, dried dates, molasses and some fresh dates. The taste is smooth and balanced, starting with sweetened coffee, roasted coffee beans, moderate spicy bitterness. The carbonation is a bit prickly at first, but gets smoother with time. Pretty fine. 7-4-7-4-15=3,7.

BOTTLE 33 CL from Berero. Batch 82, ~3 weeks old. Clear deep amber, peachy head. Not super intense, but very well defined hoppy aroma - ranging from tart pale stone fruit (apricot peach) to lemony/pine-apple, light pine, light grassy/vegetal, supporting caramel and nice alcoholic spice. The taste is more malt-forward, with background hops, balanced piney bitterness. Medium body, good as a sipper, but not too sticky or cloying. Clean and well polished. Very nicely done and better than last winter. 8-4-8-4-16.

23-FEB-2016. BOTTLE 33 CL from Berero. Almost clear deep amber, light beige creamy head. Big malty nose, with grapefruit freshness and some tropical fruit supporting it. Similar flavour, big malts, moderate hops, string yet smooth grassy finish. Clean and smooth mouth feel. Quality stuff. 8-5-7-4-15=3,9

SEP-2019. Draft at BCBF. Hazy golden, white head. Dull fruit and cereals, dank herbs. Similar taste - a bit dull and undefined - vague maltiness and heavy woody / grassy hops. Problems. 3.3/5.

18-JUN-2018. DRAFT at Beer Zone, Iași. Murky straw, white head. Lots of dank cirus piney hops, almost no sugars. Really big on dank almost weedy hops, but it's just to hop-stupid - no supporting malts whatsover. But if you're a die hard hophead - you're gonna enjoy it nevertheless. 7-3-7-4-17=3,5

29-SEP-2017. DRAFT at Ground Zero Bar. Hazy golden, Creamy off-white head. Nice ripe orange, dankness and some juicy pale malts. Similar taste, juicy citrus, citrus peel, some dankness, supporting malts. Very good. 7-4-7-4-15=3,7

14-FEB-2016. BOTTLE 33 CL. Slightly hazy amber, big off-white head. The aroma is clean and „correct”, but not too big - hints of citrus and pine, mint? The malts are quite subdued - some minty lollipop maybe? The taste, on the other hand, haz clear fresh pale malty note, followed by a moderate and smooth yet pungent bitter finish with hints of citrus and grass. Smooth and easy drinking body. Might not be earth shattering, but certainly a high quality beer. 6-4-7-4-14=3,5

Many thanks to ciocanelu for this bottle. The beer starts intense roasted. Very fresh with lots of dark roast. Intense dry roasted, even dusty. The bitterness is on a moderate level and fits in well to the bitter roasted dark malt. The aftertaste is long, roasted chocolate, very nice. Intense bitter dark roasted Porter!
