Smooth and creamy. Nice roasted malts, chocolate, light coffee, nuts, and a mild sourness on this stout. Really easy drinking. Pleasantly surprised here.

Served on draft at The Belvidere at Broad in Richmond, VA. My first O’Connor beer, and it was tasty, even if, as a previous rater said, it drinks more like a hoppy porter than a black IPA. Pours a clear dark reddish brown color with a creamy, frothy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, earthy and citrus hop notes. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, and a bitter herbal/resiny hop finish. Medium-full bodied. Nice beer.

Thistle, charred oak, black currant, and smoke nose. Clear dark ruby brown, medium tan head, good lace. Tart currant and smoke flavor. Finishes with plum skins. Light body. Not the least bit hoppy or very bitter. Not really what I call a black IPA. Drinks much more like a good porter.

Malty aroma with a bit of mold and brown sugar. Auburn, with a medium yellow head, decent lacing. Tastes like it smells, with a trace of DMS.

Draft at No Frills in Ghent. Ghent, Virginia, that is. Deep golden color, small white head. Aroma of caramel, wheat, grass, light spice. Taste has a good malt/hop balance, slightly bitter finish. Decent body and mouthfeel. This beer is living proof that a pale ale doesn’t have to be a watery, tasteless mess.
