Description
Independently-owned craft brewery providing North Carolina with quality beers since 1994.
Beginning in 1994 with a 7 barrel converted dairy system, we set and accomplished the goal of providing unique traditional ales & lagers available through OHB. Quickly we outgrew that system.
In 1997, we began the renovation of an 1880 Historic Landmark building, which now houses our brewing facilities, a 25-barrel Price Schonstrom brew house.

Bottle with sediment on the bottom. Pours clear pale but if I swirl it it gets the yeast stirred up and it starts to look like a real hefe. Mild hefe gentlemanly nose. First taste is mild and easy, friendly bubblegum and banana and its not in yer face. Too many domestic samples are over the top in the clove gum nanna thing. This is just pretty good balanced stuff. Good level of co2 also. I am really liking this hefe, its got to be one of the better hefes I've had, quite enjoyable. Nice stuff you got here old hick. Good drink after a hard day work.

Got a bottle of this while visiting relatives in NC. I was surprised to see its only rated at 3.7% ABV, seems a little stringer than that! Color is that of darker iced tea and it has an interestingly yellow tint to the head. Taste is certainly vienna but its not in yer face, it lacks that cloying vienna attribute you find in so may domestic attempts. Yes, I find this to be quite on style with the old euro viennas; lighter and easy drinking. Typically I cringe a little when I find out a beer is styled as a vienna, but this stuff is not bad! It comes across more like a civilized mild ale! It also has a good level of co2 to boot! Thanks OH!

12oz bottle. They call it a SchwartZbier so you know their attention to detail is impeccable. Relatively drinkable, true to style. Smooth and easy caramel malts. Tastes like homebrew, but isn't bad. Certainly better than the other two I've had from them.

12oz bottle. Off cheap caramel Brewhouse aromas. To call this a Brown Ale is a stretch. Tastes like someone's first attempt at homebrew in the 80s. Really shabby offering.

12oz bottle. Visually pretty weak for the style, looks filtered. I get some banana in the flavor, but minimal to no clove. Overall an unimpressive, shabby offering for a relatively easy style. Drinks a little awkwardly heavy, malty for the low ABV. Really weak mouthfeel, yeast tone. Drinkable but not good by any means.

A nice boozy big brown. Lots of smooth hickory and roasty but flavour wothout the bitterness or roast malt. Smooth and good. Beertemple ams

Not a noticeable aroma. Clear yellow color. Taste is sweet wheat, slight banana bread, but with a crisp finish like a lager.

Bomber dated January 2018. It pours deep mahogany brown with a decent beige head. The aroma is rich malt character, brown bread, dried fruits, fruit cake, spicy, umami, subdued aged vibes akin to marmite, nutty, oily, resinous, plum, date, prune, earthy, damp wood, toffee and malt loaf. The taste is slick, oily, toothy, chewy, dryness, light bitterness, dried fruits, nutty, cacao, praline, malt loaf, fruit cake, Eccles cake, plum, date, prune, damp oak, light tannin, spice, touch of leather, earth and a splash of Dr Pepper with a dry, toasty finish. Medium+ body and moderate, quite airy carbonation. Has a bit of age for, but it's an enjoyable level.

Bomber shared at Billy's. It pours hazy deep mahogany brown with a decent khaki head. The aroma is soft, sweet, fudgey, vanilla, dark fruits, dates, toffee, tablet, fruit cake, rocky road and oak. The taste is slick, oily, toothy, dried fruits, fruit cake, vanilla fudge, tablet, earthy, oak, light spice, kick of alcohol, tannin, raisin, sultana and leather with a drying finish. Medium+ body and average carbonation. Easy drinking for what it is.
