Description
Independently-owned craft brewery providing North Carolina with quality beers since 1994.
Beginning in 1994 with a 7 barrel converted dairy system, we set and accomplished the goal of providing unique traditional ales & lagers available through OHB. Quickly we outgrew that system.
In 1997, we began the renovation of an 1880 Historic Landmark building, which now houses our brewing facilities, a 25-barrel Price Schonstrom brew house.

bottle thanks to Patrick at the Tally tasting. Pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is strong bourbon and sweet malts. Flavor is rich. Caramel and toasted malts, mild bitterness and a strong finish of oak and booze. This is a nice example of a barrel not masking the beer. Everything melds nicely.

Waxed 22 ounce bottle from Bestway in Greensboro, NC, who, incidentally I heard is expanding their beer selection, which as it is now, means they’ll be taking out food to do so. You gotta love people that have their priorities in line. The bottle has a bit of age on it though I’m not sure how much. The beer pours pretty much pitch black with a thick, dense dark brown head that sticks around a while. Aroma of dark roasted malts with a bit of a dry smokiness, chocolate, honey and a bitter hop finish. The taste is dark roasted malts, honey, chocolate and a faint smokiness. Bitter hop finish. Medium-full bodied. I’m liking this one quite a bit. Well done.

Aroma of dark malts, soy, toffee, caramel and faint fruity notes. The taste is dark malts, toffee, raisins, bitter citrus hops and fairly big boozy notes. Medium bodied. The look and aroma are quite nice but the taste is not quite as pleasant. 6/3/10

Bottle (gold wax) thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a large tan head and a near black body. Head leaves great lacing. Aroma is nutty, grainy, cereal, honey, honey bunches of oats (cereal), light chocolate, light roast, light alcohol. Nothing screams IMPERIAL STOUT on the aroma, very subtle and grainy. Taste is bitter, grainy, espresso, very light on the dark malt. Creamy carbonation, thick, slightly tannic body. Warming.
