Description
Independently-owned craft brewery providing North Carolina with quality beers since 1994.

Beginning in 1994 with a 7 barrel converted dairy system, we set and accomplished the goal of providing unique traditional ales & lagers available through OHB. Quickly we outgrew that system.

In 1997, we began the renovation of an 1880 Historic Landmark building, which now houses our brewing facilities, a 25-barrel Price Schonstrom brew house.

Bottle: Very dark brown pour with a brown head. Heavy roast and chocolate nose. More roasty notes in the taste with espresso and floral hops. Sort of an earthy presence. The sweetness of the honey never really shined through in my eyes, but it remained balanced with the roasty, floral, and earthy bits. Nicely done.

Bottle: Dark amber pour with a creamy beige head. Not much in the nose apart from citrus and floral hops with a little hint of sweetness. Nice rich presence of malts, caramel and chocolate, with a lingering floral hoppiness. Drinkable now and potential to age...

Served on draft at the tap room on 4/7/11. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a thin creamy brown head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of big citrus hops with an almost chemical note. The taste is muddled citrus hops, faintly malty notes and a bitter finish. Medium bodied. I had this later the same day at Amos Howards and it was much better flavor and better balanced. The score reflects both beers.
