Description
Initiated by 3 young graduates, the Ninkasi was born from a simple idea: to implant the concept of American micro-breweries in France. This project was completed in 1997 and takes place in Lyon, on the Gerland site. In 2012, the factory moved 50km from Lyon, to Tarare more precisely (1 avenue Edouard Herriot). The new playground for our brewers has a capacity of 5,000 liters per brew (i.e. 23,000 HL / year). In 2023, Ninkasi moved to its new brewery, still in Tarare.

Note: The original Gerland location closed for works until 2027.

Catching up with Beer Hawk Advent Calendar having slowed down due to a chest infection. Aroma is malty with floral notes. Hazy-opaque amber. Thin foamy translucent white head provides 75% coverage. OK - so some rates refer to this being lagery and others to the fact that it's very unlager like. I go with the latter. Big a flirally. Citrus. Malts. A tad too much IMO. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. If anything the lager thus started off as was more in the Vienna style I reckon but it's the flowers that are the key focus of the final beer. OTT.

Bottle from the Beer Hawk Advent Calendar. Pours clear golden amber with a thin white head. Aromas are floral, soap and orange. Taste is more of the same. Not really getting any lager vibes.
