Description
Vleesmeester Brewery saw the light in 2010, when 3 friends –after years of frequenting beer festivals- decided to make their own beers. We bought ourselves a starter kit, and so it began. Some people in our surroundings wondered what we were doing in the kitchen and wanted to come take a look. Whilst crushing the malt they thought we were grinding it in a meat mill. So they started calling us “Vleesmeester” which means meatmaster in Dutch. From then on we called ourselves “Vleesmeester Brewery”, a lay-outer and friend of ours made a logo, and “Vleesmeester Brewery” was born. Fascinated by the less known beers out of the craft beer scene we started experimenting. Our preference went to hoppy beers and our firstborns were mostly IPA’s and Russian Imperial Stouts. One better than the other, by trial and error. Along the way, the people, who weren’t into hoppy beers at first, started to find appreciation for what we were doing. In 2014 the guys from the Antwerp based band “Your Highness” asked us to make a beer to serve at the release of their album, this beer became “Hoogheid”.

0.33l bottle, huge thanks H! Shared with Hrabren and Ogi. Murky dark brown blackish body, creamy tan head. Enormous creamy aroma, fruity, blueberries and vanilla really, mild oxidation, some oily dark malts, alcohol. Lean, relatively dry, excessively barrely taste, woody, roasty, ashy, but smooth, low peat, bit salty, minerally, low dark chocolate. I mean, okay? Well hidden alcohol here, still.

Black as coal with a rusty-tan head, fast gone. Islay malt a mile out. Tarred poles. Some liquorice, and somewhat smelling sweet, as dark chocolate with fruitfilling. Again Islay malt whisky, but also a quite a bit of earthy notes, even beetroot, undergrowth, kitchen garden. Still some chocolate, cherry and smoked finish. Full bodied, chewy, alcoholheat. Well carbonated. Impressive tweaking of the Black Pudding, worthy of the O.B.E.R. festival.

(Bottle, 0.33l - BB 17.08.2024, at Tuulensuu, 20241230) The beer poured golden and hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had honey, fruitiness, grass and spicy yeast. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were grass, honey, spicy yeast, floralness and bitterness. Aftertaste was fruity, spicy and bitter. A nice spicy brew with sweet notes. The ABV was well hidden. Carbonation level could have been higher.
