Description
Rowton Brewery was established in October 2008 by Jim Preston. Purpose built in a converted Victorian cattle shed on the family farm the micro-brewery has plenty of character.
Rowton Brewery has been supplying the good people of Shropshire with traditionally brewed real ales since 2008.
Consistency is maintained by getting the basics right every brew by using high quality Maris Otter malt, the finest hops sourced from round the world and water drawn from our own borehole.
The theme around the breweries logo and merchandise is based around the Rowton Meteorite that landed in the village of Rowton in 1876, which is believed to be the only Iron Meteorite that has been seen to hit the Earth in the United Kingdom. The Meteorite is currently in the Natural History Museum in London.

Hand-pulled half-pint in Ye Olde Fighting Cocks, Oakengates on 1st Aug 2013. Pale golden brew with a good sized white crown which produced some heavy lacing on the glass. Almost odourless, a faint hint of floral hops and some weak perfume notes. The taste was a delicate blend of mild malt flavours and lightly bittering hops: calling it bland would be unfair, but it didn’t possess a great deal of ’oomph’ in any direction. It was however refreshing as the weather was warm and humid at the time. No body depth to speak of: my first beer from Rowton I haven’t really enjoyed.

Hand-pulled pint in The Fighting Cocks, Oakengates on 13 Nov 2012. Golden glow to this brew: good solid white head that tried to hang around for a while. Fruity notes through out the brew, with a nice blend of flavours. Well balanced with no one ingrediant taking control, semi-sweet with a mildy bitter finish: pleasant more than interesting but easy to drink. Another local success.

Hand-pulled half pint at the Shrewsbury Beer Festival: 1st Nov 2012. Proper dark body with a thin white topping and thicker collar, looked like a vicar! The nose was malty and liquorice, with dark chocolate and coffee coming through as well. The taste was also liquorice, chocolate and coffee: this stout is dry from the off, it has a bitterness that keeps the malts sweetness in check very well and although the brew is too strong malt wise for the hops to really assert themselves in the aroma and taste they certainly play their part in making this a very drinkable stout indeed.

GBBF. Hazy gold beer, little white head. Bone dry palate. A little citrus and a whiff of sulphur. Over dry and sulphurous! Marvellous!

Cask, handpump at Shreswbury Folk Festival small bar whilst waiting for Vin Garbutt Friday 24th August 2012 It was very dark so the colour sort of passed me by however it certainly appeared paleish. Taste was light nuttiness with a buttery edge, hops were conspicuous only by their absence. Not very crisp, dry or refreshing, lacks a bitter edge. Ok A6 A3 T6 P2 Ov12 2.9

Four pints: cask, gravity pour at the local CAMRA AGM (Telford and East Shropshire ). Back room of The Fighting Cocks, Stotteston on Saturday 30th June 2012. Golden body, a light golden hue really: good lacing from a thin white head on each pour. Taste and aroma blended together nicely, floral hop feel to both with a dry bittering finish. This is an easy drinking session bitter and as it was free I really enjoyed my pints.

Hand pulled pints in the ’All Nations’ and the newly refurbished ’Elephant and Castle’, Dawley: one in Feb the second in March. Jim Preston is doing a grand job: his beers are both well constructed and interesting. This one pours a lovely chestnut reddy brown colour with an off-white head that always leaves good lacing. The brew is more malt than hop but although both the smell and flavours are malty the hops play their part by ensuring the beer has a crisp bitter finish and is dry rather than malt sweet in the mouth.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 5/09/2011. Deep gold with a slight white head. Aroma of sweetish apricot fruit and grassy hops. Flavour had cereal malts, more fruit and a dryish finish. Fine.

Cask handpull at Market Porter, Borough, Wow the lightest of light milds. Clear pale gold, thin white head. Not much of anything but very drinkable, some sting on finish, some ok pale malt. I was interested
