Description
Monty’s Brewery is based just a short distance from the ancient castle town of Montgomery, on the Powys - Shropshire border. Monty’s Brewery was founded in 2008 by husband and wife team Russ and Pam Honeyman since then they have established the brewery as one of the leading breweries in Wales. Producing beers of many styles, with a focus on gluten free and low alcohol beers the brewery prides itself on its range having won many awards.
In this new world of sustainability and with a focus on the environment Monty’s is driving towards a more sustainable process. In the brewery we heat the water for each brew from the previous brew through plate heat exchangers, all helping to keep our carbon footprint down as much as we can. We don’t use any plastic in our packaging, and our waste grain, feeds local cattle, our first and last beer run-ins which would be a waste product are fed to a herd of Welsh Wagyu.

500ml bottle: BBD Aug 15. Poured into an ’Old Speckled Hen’ badged pint vase at home on 12th Nov 14. Clear golden body with a thin and retreating white head. Mild citrus bent to the fruity aroma, very little maltiness in the nose or taste. Dry, hop bitter, with a slight grapefruit twang to the flavour. Decent enough, but similar to plenty of the golden, citrusy leaning beers around the UK at the moment.

Very light haze on this gold beer. Big pale cream colour head. Palate is light and minerally crisp from fine minerally carbonation. Light sweetish pale malts. Mild floralness. The hops are pretty mild but what there is exhibits a fresh orange. Light finish. Fresh and breezy, goes down easy!

Pours a slightly hazy golden with small off-white head on top. A mild malty aroma, not much else there really. The taste is mildly bittery, some biscuity notes, very minimal. Easily drinkable, smooth and nice overall.

Bottle. It pours an unclear dark amber colored body under a small, dense, light beige head. The aroma has a faint caramel maltyness, but it’s mostly fresh carrots. Lots of carrots. It’s quite thin on the palate, with a low level of carbonation. Dry. Caramel malts in the back, with a good dash of carrots and cooked vegetables. Rather horrible this one. Sure, I like carrots, but this is rediculous. 140927

Bottle. It pours an almost clear body, golden in color and with a dense, off-white head leaving lacings. The aroma has a nice fruityness, with some peppery hints and citrus peel. Lemon coming stronger after a while. Some pale malts in the flavor, a hint of caramel, and quite a lot of citrusy fruityness. There’s a fine bitterness too, and some peppery hints. Medium body, quite dry. Lasting finish. Feels more like a saison than a bitter this one, nice is it anyway. 140927

Bottle. It pours a hazy dark, dark brown body and a finger-thick light beige head. The aroma has a good dash of burnt down bonfire, with prunes, licorice and some coffee. Bonfire in the flavor too, with prunes, dark chocolate and some coffee in the back. Medium body, quite dry, but with some sweetness. Lasting rosted and charcoal-ish finish. Quite decent, but not my preferred kind of stout, too charcoal-ish. 140808
