Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours almost completely black with a strong beige head. Has a nose which is mainly maple, with smoky traces. Flavour is dominated by roast malts and maple syrup. Also nuts and hints of dark fruits. Despite all these tastes, it still feels a bit watery. Finish is where the alcoholic strength comes through. Doesn’t quite live up to its initial promise – but still very nice.

Handpull cask at the Bailey Head, Oswestry. Dark brown, bordering on black, with a small tan head. Fresh butter croissants, a bit of maple, some charred malt in the aroma. Taste comes together superbly: sweet and decadent with some earthy stone fruit bitterness creeping in to the finish. The sip ends quite bitter, with a touch of maple, black grape and cooking chocolate in the aftertaste. Full body, flat carbonation. Lovely.

On tap at The Made Inn Ashford. Turbid dirty orange brown colour. milk aroma mango. light jam. I have to say it's not very good. a bit revolting to be honest. light bitterness. bit too much of everything. unbalanced.

Keg at Toms Tap, Crewe, 07/12/19. Black with a decent tan cap. Nose is mellow roast, charr, toffee melt, cocoa powder. Taste comprises faint coffee, cocoa powder, toffee, pinch of spice, roasted bite, dried fruits. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close. Decent enough stout.

Keg at Toms Tap, Crewe, 07/12/19. Light haze on a golden orange pour with a decent off white cap that clears to a swirl. Nose is melon, yeast esters, grass, citric shreds. Taste comprises mellow yeast strokes, tangerine, grass, melon, peach. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Nice flavoursome drop for the ABV.

Taste comprises sweet malts, mango, papaya, grass, mellow tropical fruits. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close laced with juicy hop bitterness. Ok stuff.

Taste comprises bitter orange,mineral bite, grass, melon hint of pine needle. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close splashed with balanced juicy to grassy hop bitterness. Not bad.

Taste comprises biscuit, straw, toffee, light spice, brown sugar dusting. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok for the style.
