Cask at Market Porter, shown as 4.2%. 27th June 2013. This is a seasonal beer for the month of June, according to website, so out of retirement? Any way, nice, refreshing and flavoursome ale, good for lunch

[500ml bottle from Alfred the Grape, Marlow] Chestnut with a large won’t-fit-in-my-glass head and a frothy mouthfeel. Rich chocolate and muscovado sugar up front, with autumn leaves and woodland mulch to follow. Walnuts in the slightly oily finish. A (slightly) richer version of the original which suffers from being bottled - think like most UK-style beers this would be much better on cask. Nevertheless, it’s pleasant enough and well balanced.

Clear red beer with a thin foamy head. Tangy taste, not much aftertaste but quite drinkable if unremarkable.

Cask at the Reading Beer Festival 2012. Pours bright orange with a light foam head. Dark doughy malt nose, some butter notes. Mild sweet falvor, slightly doughy and buttery, mellow piney bitterness and caramel. Light bodied with soft, fine carbonation. Modest sweetness to finish, somewhat sticky, more caramel and buttered dough. Not great.
