7% porter. Mmmmm. As they say, the proof of the pudding and all that so here we go... cask @ Brewery Shades, Crawley. Darkest brown, so close to black. Small but lively khaki head. Aroma of smoke, burnt coffeepot with a hint of bittering hop. Smooth, sweet liquorice taste with an espresso bitterness in the finish. Tongue-tickling palette that is so rare in cask. An excellent beer from a brewery that I just discovered today.

Cask @ Brewery Shades, Crawley. Very dark brown with little head. Sweet malty aroma of honey, strong coffee, slight vinegar. Initial sweet taste whacks headlong into a bitter-sour lasting through to the finish. Thinner mouthfeel than I would have liked. Still, a good porter is always welcome, even slightly unbalanced ones.

GBBF Day 2. Almost clear amber beer, little pale tan head. Light semi dry palate. Big German style nutty malt. Light dried fruits. Touch of floralness. Light dry finish. Not bad, quite German nutty.
