33cl bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika. Pours dark brown with a nice off-white to beige head. Quite fruity aroma with raisins, dark malt, caramel, some spicy notes and hints of roasted malt. Fairly sweet, smooth and well balanced. Light bitterness in the finish and a pleasant mouthfeel. Nice one! --- Beer merged from original tick of Julebukk on 01 Dec 2013 at 21:53 - Score: 7

Sampled at Nærbø Ølfestival 2013. Clear amber body with an off-white head. Pleasant but not very strong aroma of smoked malt. Flavor is sweet, fruity, malty and moderate smoke. Not much bitterness. Fine body and a bit sweet in aftertaste. Nice flavor, practical in smaller amounts but otherwise a bit one dimensional and sweet. Alcol is quite well hidden.

330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.0%. Very dark brown colour, large and lasting beige head. Malty, fruity and spicy aroma, notes of citrus peel and Christmas spices. Malty and medium sweet flavour, Christmas spices and caramel, hints of citrus in the background. Good beer, but a little more hops would not hurt.

Dark brown and clear. A good and typical bock beer. Aroma of sweet malt. Unsure what should make this a Yule bock, as opposed to an ordinary bock.

08.11.2013, 0,33l bottle @ home:
Nice creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet "sour-ish", wet grain, caramel malts, some sour-ish unripe fruity notes in the direction of banana and citrus, old coffee, hay. Taste is burnt caramel malts, nuts, hay, coffee, wet grain, almond essence, chocolate. Medium bitterness, kind of harsh mouthfeel. Pretty mediocre.

On tap @ Kick. Dark brown, practically black body with a big off-white head. Mild and pleasant aroma of dark malt, chocolate and coffee. Flavor is the same, nothing strong and dominating, but smooth, mild and balanced with sweet, dark malt, chocolate, mild coffee and moderate in bitterness. Fine body with a nice and lasting aftertaste. A really pleasant and smooth Bock. I really didn’t notice the orange and lemon flavors here, but I don’t think that’s important. This is a fine and smooth one and the best from Balder so far.

On tap at Kick. A more or less clear one, reddish dark brown in color and with a finger thick light beige head leaving curtains. Rather malty aroma with some dried fruits and chocolate. Coffee in the far back. Soy sauce hints. Pleasant flavor too, some bitterness, but it’s mostly malty. Dried fruits, caramel, some coffee and chocolate. Licorice too. Full body, soft carbonation. Lasting finish. A really, really pleasant Christmas beer, in the modern Norwegian way, but on some steroids. Finally starting to appreciate Balder. 131029
