0.33l bottle. A gusher! Well, perhaps not super gushing but it doesn't take long before the kitchen sink is soaked with brown sticky stuff, but the good old cat reflexes prevented this from happening. In the glass it has a huge almost enormous dark creamy almost beige looking head that slowly fades away and revealing small blondes on the sides of the glass. The beer itself is unclear and deep dark brown amber in color. On the nose I get a mild spicy perfumed aroma with mild cloves, dark sugar, dark malts and burned sweetness with a nutty saltiness in the back. It smells quite nice this. It feels surprisingly and a bit disappointing to be honest, thin and almost watery in the mouth while the carbonation as expected quite brutal and lively. Sweet and caramelly with some really nice spicy nuances. Lots of grounded chocolate and a little bit of cocoa. Mild cinnamon, citrus zest bitterness, anise and ginger (mild like Galangal). A really tasty and flavorful beverage that I won't mind having again. Will set aside a bottle for next year, cause this was a nice little surprise! 25.12.2013

330ml bottle bought at Vinmonopolet Langnes. Creamy and bubbly fawn-colured head with fine duration. Good lacing. Deep mahogany coloured body. very nice, indeed. Inviting aromas of caramel and chocolate joined by cinnamon. Dark malty taste mixed with liquorice and cinnamon. Citrus peels to the aftertaste. Half dry. Medium to full bodied. Velvety in the mouth. A nice one packed with the right mood of Christmas (Tromsø, 21.12.2013).

Bottle at home. The colour is slightly hazy brown colour with a huge, creamy beige head. Malty aroma of rye bread, dried fruit, leather and nuts. The flavour follows up. Pretty sweet but balanced. Nice. Slick and smooth mouth feel, and has a light bitterness. A well-balanced and tasteful beer. Not much of the citrus.

330ml bottle, as Sognepils, from Meny Oslo City. Initially huge, off-white head reduced to a patchy surface over a clear, amber coloured body. Smell of earthy malts with hints of caramel. Taste of butter caramel added by dried fruit, almost a marmalade impression. Mid-sweet malt fruity ending. Just alright (hotel room, Oslo 11.12.2013).

330 ml bottle, as Balder Sognapils Extra, at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Will also be available there on tap for a short time later. ABV is 6.0%. Ruby colour, large off-white head. Sweetish aroma of caramel. Medium sweet flavour with caramel and alcohol, some sharpish bittering hops in the finish. Certainly not a "pils" by any stretch of the mind, but drinkable, if you have nothing better around.

330 ml bottle, as Balder Sognapils, from the brewery. ABV is 4.7%, IBU 19. Amber colour (the darkest "pilsener" I’ve seen), moderate white (or slightly off-white) head. Dull aroma with some grain and caramel. The flavour is okay, some caramel but not too sweet, low but noticeable bitterness. As a Vienna / amber lager, it is not too bad.

33cl bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika. Pours dark brown with a nice off-white to beige head. Quite fruity aroma with raisins, dark malt, caramel, some spicy notes and hints of roasted malt. Fairly sweet, smooth and well balanced. Light bitterness in the finish and a pleasant mouthfeel. Nice one! --- Beer merged from original tick of Julebukk on 01 Dec 2013 at 21:53 - Score: 7
