Description
Up Front Brewing was founded in 2015 with the aim of sharing our love of exceptional beers and great artwork, with a wider audience.

Here at Up Front we have no loans, no investors, and no kickstarter funding - everything is paid for up front. We brew by renting space in other people’s breweries, with each batch paid for as it’s brewed.

We have very little in the way of overheads, which allows us to spend a considerable amount of time and effort into researching and experimenting with new yeast, bacteria, ingredients, and brewing techniques from around the world. We brew mostly out of 71 Brewing in Dundee, but also use other breweries as and when required.

Up Front has used both Drygate and Alechemy as a base.

Can. Hazy orange gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and smooth and semi dry, decent fine minerally carbonation. Light malts, a light creamy sweetness. Yes, good punchy Clementine that is accentuated by the light but requisite saline vibe. The passion fruit ramps up on the back end but never gets over sharp. Light crisp finish with a light but pleasing savoury vibe. Very good fruity Gose. Doesn't have the intensity of the best imperial fruity goses but it's not trying to be. One of the better passion fruit beers in recent years and with some decent Clementine too boot.

Can from Appellation Wines. Appearance - deep orange with a big creamy off-white head. Nose - big lime note, straight off. Then salt and coriander. Taste - luscios lime and tropical. Still salty but coriander more muted. Palate - medium bodied with a tangy middle and finish. Overall - lovely stuff.

Can shared with my brother. It pours jet black with a small tan head. The aroma is sweet, unctuous, caramel, toffee, honeycomb crunch, fruity Scottish whisky, heather honey, rich roasted malt, coffee grounds, espresso, liquorice, light vanilla, maple syrup and toffee. The taste is bitter - sweet, rich roasted malt, slick, umami, lighter than expected, heather honey, maple glazed action, vanilla, toffee, caramel, cherry cola, Dr Pepper, fruity whisky, charred oak, roasted malt, subdued alcohol with a toasty finish. Medium+ body and and average carbonation. Deceptively drinkable. Not as sweet as feared.

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours a lovely brunch mahogany brown with a sturdy yellowy - beige head. The aroma is sweet and intoxicating, loads of dried fruits, date, prune, raisin, booze soaked oak, vinous, dried cranberry, fruit cake, figgy pudding, toffee and jam. The taste is bitter - sweet, but with a sour edge, red wine vibes, cranberry pucker, red grape, fig, date, prune, jammy and tangy, hint of acidity, toothy, chewy, some spice, leathery tannin, hint of fizzy cherry bottles, soapy florals, charred oak, warming booze and some ashy spice through the finish. Fulsome body and fizzy carbonation. Love the aroma, but the taste is a bit sharp and astringent tbh. Good depth of flavour, but let down by being too long in the barrel, a shame.

On tap at Shilling, pours a deep dark reddish brown with a small white head. Aroma brings out dark dried fruits, some vinous tones, oaky tannins, and caramel. Flavour is rich and complex, with red wine barrel, dates, figs, and dry toasted caramel. Complex and well-crafted. Really well-done.
