From cask at the Maldon Beer & Cider Festival with Terje 25.04.22. Clear golden. Fine aroma and taste of marmalade, pale malt and bitter citrus.

Cask, third pint. @GBBF Winter, Burton-On-Trent (UK). 16/02/2023 [#5.833 Global - #618 England - #1 Colchester Brewery (My English Brewery #191) and a new Region] Pours dark brown, almost black with a small head. Aroma: strong coffee beans, light vanila and roasted malts. Taste: coffee malts, watery smoked malts and liquorice. Americano mouthfeel. Next one please!

Just about transparent is this dark brown beer, a patchy bubble pale tan head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, the carbonation is pretty modest. The dark malts are delivered through a fair thin mouthfeel but packing good flavour, a soft cappuccino vibe underpins smooth but mellow dark chocolate. A nice ripe plummy fruity vibe coming through on the back end. Light and semi dry finish. This is the backbone of a very good porter but it needs more of everything in every department, more dark malts, more mouthfeel and more carbonation. Pitch this same recipe at around 6 to 7% and you would have something in the Kernel class. Nice beer nonetheless.

A light haze on this gold beer, small bubbly pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth pale malts with a touch of dry grain, nothing serious, and a bigger touch of creamy sweetness. The hoppage is floral, bitter and imparts a fair dose of pithy citrus. Crisp pine and a little hop spice. Touch of citrus peel and ripe orange on the semi dry finish. Plenty going on here but delivered in more if trad English style. Good but I am still waiting for another beer like the stellar Sorachi pale ale that was brewed last year.
