Description
Located in the semi-rural location of Wakes Colne in the borough of Colchester, the brewery was formed in late 2011.

All funding came from the 3 founding directors and their friends and family.

1st February 2012 saw the first brew on the 10 brewers’ barrels (about 1600 litres) kit, with this being the beer that remains our best-seller, namely Colchester No1.

Cask at Colchester Beer Festival. Black with a beige head. Smoke, fake coffee, liquorice and a bit of plum. It grew on me but ultimately the fake coffee put me off.

Cask 1/3 pint at the 46th Cambridge Beer Festival, 2019, Colchester Oatmeal Mild in the programme, also mentioned at the bar as Colchester Dark Mild. ABV 3.5%. Nearly black colour, beige head. Aroma of chocolate. Smooth flavour of chocolate, very mild coffee, a hint of fruity hops.

25/5/2019. Cask at the 14th Annual Beer Festival at the Trimley Sport & Social Club. Pours mid brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, toffee, chocolate, hops, dark fruit, nut and rye. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Light spicy finish. Not bad.

25/5/2019. Cask at the 14th Annual Beer Festival at the Trimley Sport & Social Club. Pours dark amber / copper colour with a small off-white head. Aroma of hops, malt, fruit, caramel, flowers and biscuit. Medium sweetness and bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Decent brew. Also 20/2/2026. Two bottles at Colchester Arts Centre whilst watching eXTC. See photo.

25/5/2019. Cask at the 14th Annual Beer Festival at the Trimley Sport & Social Club. Pours clear gold with a small bubbly off-white head. Aroma of light hop, tropical fruit, citrus and honey. Medium plus sweetness, moderate bitterness, Moderate body, oily texture, soft carbonation.

Cask at the Queens Head, Stourbridge. Pours very dark brown with a small head. Aroma is sweet roast and liquorice. Taste has sweet roast and coffee throughout with liquorice on the finish.

Cask gravity at the Pig's ear beer festival 05/12/2017. A clear golden orange coloured pour with a loose white head. Aroma is honey, grass, hedgerow, grassy, sileage. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, honey, hegerow hop, bitter grassy hop . Palate is grassy, low grainy, moderate cask condtion.

Cask gravity at the Pig's ear beer festival 05/12/2017. A clear golden orange coloured pour with a halo of white head. Aroma is nutty malts, hedgerow hop, grass. Flavour is composed of nutty twig malts, grassy, sileage. Palates is semi sweet, moderate carbonation, decent condition.

Sample@GBBF2018, London, with the Malmö crew - Black pour with a beige head. Sweet and roasted malty with some distinct coffee roast, brown sugar, light cocoa notes, medium body, burnt ashy dark malty with a twist of vanilla into the close.

Cask at CBC, Clerkenwell on 6th December 2018. Golden amber with whitish foam affording full lacing. Crisp, fine citrus aroma. Citrus and tropical fruits in-mouth and quite a bitter finish. Zingy mouthfeel and a light body make for easy drinking.
