Just a light haze on this gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light, mildly dry, decent fine minerally carbonation. Light malts, a light but slightly dry sweetness, trace of wheaty malts. Good hopping. Light crisp pine into mildly pithy citrus. No hop description on the bottle but I would guess Cascade and Amarillo. A little brighter citrus before a semi dry finish. Light and quaffable. C'mon Colchester, you can shake of that trad brewer mantle.

500ml bottle [courtesy of Grumbo - cheers Graham!]. Quasi black colour with average to huge, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, dark beige head. Roasty and chocolately, almost a bit ashy, malty aroma, notes of dark chocolate, coffee, a touch of roasted nuts. Taste is bitter roasty, dark malty, slightly chocolately malty, hints of coffee, liquorice, some hop bitterness as well; very subtle residual sweetness. Minimally creamy, watery texture, velvety palate, medium, mildly prickly carbonation. Decent malty aspects, relatively bitter - very nice.

10/6/2022. Cask at the 17th Braintree Real Ale Festival. Pours clear dark amber bronze with a small bubbly/frothy white head. Aroma is rich, fruity, berries, milk chocolate, toffee, biscuit. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness, hint of berry tart. Medium body, creamy, soft carbonation. Nicely done. Our beer of the festival.

Cask: Poured a brown black with a creamy light brown khaki head. Aroma is roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate, cocoa. Taste is rich roasted malts, cocoa chocolate, light bitter coffee, dark fruits.

Hazy orange gold beer, small off white head. Airy palate, decent fine carbonation. Fluffy malts, slightly thin, provide a modicum of sweetness. Hops bring ripe citrus with a strong floral streak that I would assume is Motueka, although I have not tasted that much floralness from it for some years. A trace of mellow lime on the back end. Some mild estery thing lurks about in the background, not too bothersome. Light finish. A pleasant enough affair. I've been keeping a close eye on Colchester since that stonking Sorachi beer they did a few months back. Yet to attain that quality again but I live in hope.

22/4/2022. Cask at Hop Beer Shop, Chelmsford. Pours clear dark amber brown with a small frothy off-white head. Nice looking beer. Aroma of toffee, malt, dried fruits, hint of berries and chocolate. Moderate sweetness and medium bitterness. Medium body, oily, soft carbonation. Decent.

Happy 97th Birthday Mum, hope you are resting in peace. Bright clear gold beer, small and short lived off white head. Palate is light, fairly dry and has a good fine minerally crispness. Thinnish malts provide a reasonable amount of sweetness. Hops (Simcoe according to Ratebeer, but I can't find that mentioned on the bottle) bring an unusual ripe pineapple, bruised perhaps and a touch of unsweet pineapple cubes. There is also light pine and a touch of citrus. Light crisp finish. Nice clean crisp pale ale. Well hopped and drinkable.

Cask at Weighbridge, Burton on Trent. Pours a dark reddish brown with a small cream head. Malts to the fore in the nose, plus some hints of liquorice. It the mouth it has a creamy texture with sweet malts prominent. There’s liquorice and traces of honey there too, and some lactose appears after a while. Finish has sticky treacle clinging to the tongue plus a slight fruitiness. Not sure about this one – I think I like it ?!

Cask at the Loughborough beer festival 2022. Deep cola colour with a slight foamy head. Aroma and taste are burnt malty and slightly dry. Medium body.
