RBESG Sheffield 2009, day 3, Smithfields Hotel, Manchester. Bottle. Light hazy golden colour, creamy white head. Aroma of toffee, fruits, hops and citrus. Flavour is sweet, fruity, caramel, sharp green hoppy finish. Medium bodied. A sweet IPA.

Bottle, kindly shared by Cgarvieuk and Nightfall at RBESG Sheffield 2009 at the Star Inn in Huddersfield. 2006 vintage, 11% ABV. Black in colour, no head (this was a leftover, don’t know if it had any). Aroma is very sweet, liquorice, whiskey, soy sauce. Flavour is very sweet, bourbon, vanilla, some liquorice, soy sauce, bit of chocolate. Too sweet for my taste, but glad to have had the chance to try this. Thanks Craig/Alex! 6/4/7/4/13=3.4 50cl Bottle, 2017 vintage, shared by kermis. Black colour, beige head. Aroma is heavy sweet, soy sauce, molasses, roast, some chocolate, soft bourbon notes. Flavour is sweet, soy sauce, molasses, bourbon, roast, bittersweet finish. Full bodied, thick syrupy mouthfeel. I think I got used to ultra-sweet big stouts. 8/4/8/4/15

On tap at White Horse, Parsons Green. Very pale gold, greenish tinge, thin white head. Not a huge aroma, touch of soap on the hop, but really refreshing beer. Bit dullish, little bit of lemon edge to it, more an American wheat than a wit. Not very exciting but very refreshing.

Nice crisp deep amber and copper tinted body with a large tan head that lasts for quite a while. Aroma of rye, oatmeal, hops, malt and a bit of cereal. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong malt flavour up front mostly of caramel with a tiny bit of rye showing through and a rather pleasant mild hop taste. Aftertaste shows caramel, brown sugar and a light dose of malt - very nice. Overall, a nice twist on a mild - a style I don’t see enough of, but a good beer and definitely worthwhile during autumn in Chicago! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Half Time in Poughkeepsie, New York on 11-June-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 14-July-2009.

Bottled, alc. 8% (Beer Hunters, bottled 03/2009). Deep amber-copper brown color, small beige head, small floating yeast. Very yeasty, berryish, a bit tart nose. Tart, yeasty, red currant, raw gooseberries, long alcoholic and tart aftertaste. Probably infected, needs rerating, although it is not so bad like this. (7/4/7/3/13 3.4). Re-rated this from same batch. Same numbers! Interesting. this bottle has no yeast, no floating particles or yeast in the bottom whatsoever. Silky, low carbonation - mouthfeel. Sweet toffeish flavor, some kind of light grassy notes. Close to Belgium abbey dubbels, not very American.

Bottled, alc. 4.7% (Beer Hunters’, BB 04/2010). Pale, slightly hazy yellow color, small white head. Aroma is soapy lemony with kind of unfermented sugar, wort note (although it is the most likely from yeast). Light palate, crisp mouthfeel, also a bit oily. Pale malty with light lemony hops. Refreshing, but just too boring and watery for being a good Kölsch. This is a bit like pale lagers of mainstream brewpubs. Pours a cloudy golden color. Not quite as sour or as fragrant as most wheat beers I’ve tried. It’s a bit more restrained. Good accompaniment to food.
