Description
Goose Island Beer Company began as a single brewpub opened in 1988 by John Hall. By 1995, John’s beer had become so popular that he decided to open a larger brewery, along with a bottling plant to keep up with demand. 1999 brought even more growth, along with an additional brewpub, and today, what was once one man’s pint-filled dream has become the Goose Island empire you know and love.

in 2011, Goose Island Beer Company was acquired by Anheuser-Busch InBev. Since then, we’ve continued to brew beer that we’re proud of and now we get to share these beers with our friends both nationwide and internationally.

Pours deep and dark with very little head that is a dark brown. The aroma is strong and got to me almost as soon as I opened the bottle. Chocolate and coffee with roasted malts seem to be the main things I noticed but was rounded out by a touch of sweetness and a light alcohol scent as well. The flavor is ever changing. At first you taste the alcohol and the sweetness of the beer which seems to come from dark fruits and caramel. As you drink it you continually notice the alcohol but the flavor changes to chocolate and finishes with a strong roasted coffee flavor. The alcohol is always present and not hidden at all but that is what I expected, a great beer.

Draught at Rose and Raindrop, Portland. Clear golden. Lightly fruity aroma. Medium sweet with notes of peach. Near full bodied. Flavours of grass, mango and peach. Medium bitterness. Fairly easy going barley wine.

Bottle of 355 ml from Vinmonopolet, Norway. Pale brown. Thin head. Dominated by hops all the way through. Hoppy aroma, hoppy flavour and hoppy aftertaste - and I like it.

This struck me as more of a nice sipping whiskey or sweet apertif than a beer — and that’s not a negative. Opaque black pour with a small, dark tan head that disappears rapidly. The aroma is of a sweet liquor. In addition to the alcohol , it smelled of sweet fruit. The flavor contained an array of tastes — raisins, overripe plums, roasted malts and caramel. The finish was slightly bitter. Full body. The alcohol is quite warming. Excellent.

Bottle: first of all the bottle says this is an English bitter while ths website says an american pale ale. Whats up with that? I will go with the american pale ale because it tasted like nothing. Nothing special what so ever.

It just seems most U.S beers just come up short when trying to mimic the belgian beers. This one did as well. Had a bottle, pours nice with a little bit of head and a cloudy golden color. The aroma is strong but hard for me to pin point anything specific. The taste however is lacking. Its not a bad beer but a cheap imitation of a belgian

There was nothing christmas-y about his beer. There was no big alcohol content (5.4% IS NOTHING), barely any taste, and no santa claus anywhere. This beer poured with barely any head and a dark brown color, could not see through it. Nothing recognizable or strong in the aroma. Tasted like nothing special either. Was not a bad beer but nothing to distinguish it from anything good, especially for an old ale.

Bottle Pours a slightly hazy deep golden with a moest head but persistant sticky lacing. Aromas of swet light grains, honey maybe, light brwon sugar and a hint of, I think cat food. The crumbles kind. "Little Friskies" if I am not mistaken. Not unpleasant, just a bit strange. First taste is not as sweet as I expected. A bit woody, cardboard maybe. The ABV comes through just a bit, but wouldn’t have guessed nearly %8. Very faint and subtle on the Belgian spiciness and yeaty flavors I am familiar with. Very soft almost creamy feel and quite soft carbonation. I am not a fan of the style in general but htis is very tasty.
