Description
It had always been an ambition of Tom Minshull to start a brewery, having been involved a while back with Burt's Brewery due to its links with his company, Island Ales. Tom was only prepared to start this venture when the time was right and only if it was done properly and with attention to detail and above all, to be able to produce a first class product.

When Chris Coleman agreed to come on board as the brewer, the ability to produce a first class product was in place. Chris brings a wealth of experience, expertise and respect, which has been gained over many years as a brewer of some distinction.

Following extensive research and site visits to mainland breweries by Steve Minshull and Chris Coleman it was decided not to use second hand equipment but to use a company called Johnson Engineering, a company specialising in brewery manufacture based in Bolton, Lancashire, to make for us a brewery to our specifications.

Flaske (thanks, Cimbasso!) delt med Ovesen ombord på Fridtjofen: klar, mørk kobbergylden med flott skum som varer. Kjeks, malt, toffee, urter i aroma og smak. Vegetal bitterhet, ganske lang ettersmak. Slank og meget lettdrikkelig.

500ml bottle: BBD 18th Oct 18. Shared with my wife at home on 26th Apr 17, Leffe badged chalices being the vessels we used. Golden bodied, clean and clear, wispy white head that soon left the scene. Initial sniff and sip was encouraging, but the beer went down hill pretty swiftly. The biscuity malts and mild citrus nose seemed to turn a little metallic, as did the taste, what flavours remained appeared bland and uninteresting. Sad really because I do not like ’kicking’ the small guy normally.

500ml bottle: BBD 7th Sep 17. Ist beer on a ’random tasting evening’ with myself on 17th Mar 17. Poured slowly into an Abbot Ale badged glass tankard at home. Looked lovely, mahogany body, bright, clean and clear, full inch high foaming blanket of white bubbles. Malty lead in both the nose and taste, good bitterness flavour wise, some toffee esters early on. Nice balance here, hop bitter, yet malty and nutty notes pushing a semi-sweetness. Slightly over carbonated, but not enough to make the beer ’fizzy’. Liked it. Obtained from Greenhams Off Licence in Ryde, IoW.
