Cask at White Hart, Tongham. A lack of aroma - although there is some hickory coffee roast to it. Glossy black. Think beige head rings the rim. An instant short bitterness, before a sugary sweetness sweeps through. A sour edge remains. Coffee, cream, burnt caramel, sour berries. Medium bodied. Both slickness and carbonation are light. Long slightly astringent finish. Even though it’s a roasting hot summer day this porter still slips down very well. It really benefits from the caramel sugariness. Good stuff.

Cask at PoW, Farnborough. Aroma of cooked veg, with a sour edge. Light chestnut. Thin bubbly head. Light bitter, develops sweetness. Spicy notes, alongside hoppy grapefruit. But all pretty muted. Light bodied. Watery. Slick residue. Long dry finish. Decent enough but uneventful.

Cask at PoW, Farnborough. Smooth malty aroma. Hint of hops. Dark amber. Frothy white head. Medium bitter. Biscuity. Herby. Sweet caramel in the finish. A slightly off sourness hovers about. Light but also has a kinda dense mouthfeel. Carbonation more evident into the long dry finish. Alright, but not exactly fresh tasting. Could have been the cask?

Bottle, bought at the brewery by a colleague. Hoppy aroma with a honey/fruit sweetness to it. Bright amber, slightly opaque. The vibrant white head soon recedes. Initial light heather honey sweetness before a quinine bitterness develops, getting stronger in to the finish. Medium bodied. Slick with soft carbonation. Long finish. Pleasant and refreshing, the hops are well balanced by the sweet elements.

Cask at the Bell, Waltham, St Lawrence. An attactive golden amber pour with a tight creamy white head; aroma of sour grains; sour grainy taste, quite thick and oily in the mouth, with a sharp metallic bitterness that demands attention. An uncompromisingly bitter bitter.

Cask at The Old Gaol House (JDW). Dark brown with a middling beige head. Chocolate and vanilla up front with some roastiness. Blackberry and licquorice emerging - really quite fruity. Rich, smooth mouthfeel & a slight oakiness in the finish. Very nice porter indeed - thoroughly enjoyed this.
