Description
We opened our doors in Brixton in mid 2013 with the aim of teaching Londoners how to make beer. We have expanded operations at this site to offer up to 30 draught lines featuring our commercially available beers, exclusive nano brews and guest beers plus a large stock of cans and bottles to take home. We remain one of the very few venues in London to stock home brewers with hops, malt and yeast.

Bottle at home in London. Mild gusher! ours hazy gold with moderate effervescence and a frothy, off-white head. There’s a bit of dry wheat in the aroma, subtle saison yeast, some lemon zest. Light sweet flavor with pithy citrus, faint grapefruit, some bitter pine needles and orange rind, pale grains, wheat, slight yeast, biscuits. Light bodied with average to lively carbonation. Very clean on the finish, more pithy citrus, rindy bitterness, very mild sweetness. It’s a really nice beer. At 2.8%, you really can’t pack a lot of character into the beer (you can load it up with hops but then you run the risk of making it unbalanced and/or too bitter), but there’s just enough to keep this one interesting while also being very refreshing.

Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours cloudy golden - orange with a thick white head. The nose is pretty sweet, banana candy, clove, marshmallow, apple, pear melon and icing sugar. The taste is crisp, bitter, toasty grain, cereal, light banana, clove, toasty and cereal with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not bad at all. Thought it might be too sweet, but not.

Bottle shared in Lpndon - picked up at the Lab. Pours hazy gold, heavily effervescent, with a dense white cream head. Big saison yeast and estery aroma, some dry wheat, light zesty lemon. Medium sweet flavor with doughy wheat bread, yeast, melon, straw. Light to medium bodied with active carbonation. Finishes with light alcohol warmth, sweet wheat bread, more saison yeast, light bitter straw, citrus fruits, melon, very slight lemony tang. Good stuff.

Bottle from London Beer Lab. Unfortunately it’s a huge explosion of a gusher- I’ve struck IPA! Manage to save about half of it, but unfortunately it’s now a very murky gold. The aroma makes up for the looks though- a glorious nasal symphony of peach, mango, tangerine and grapefruit. These fruits are there on tasting too, but are a little more subdued. There’s hints of pine and bread too, and the bitterness is maybe a tad heavier than I’d have liked. Shame about the initial beer fountain; the remaining beer was pretty good and maybe with better behaviour it could have been great. Anyway, I’d better go and clean the kitchen before my wife gets home...

Bottle at home in London - picked up from the Lab. Pours deep black-brown with a dense, everlasting beige froth head. Strong ashy roast in the nose, burnt pine, earth, leather. Light to medium sweet flavor with lots more ash, scorched earth, dark berries, wood, grass. Medium bodied with active carbonation and velvety texture. Moderate sweetness on the finish with further sturdy roast, some baking cocoa, burnt grass, pine, a bit of orange rind, slight perfume and herbs. Lingering chocolate and scorched earth in the aftertaste. Very good stuff overall. Plenty of interesting nuance here.
