'Mad Friday' 2025 Beer#1. First brew on one of the busiest drinking days of the year. A citrus hazy session to begin with. Sweet tropical notes come through because of a low citric bitterness factor in this one. Easy drinking, carbonation noted, with some pine in the mix too.

Bottle at Golcar United Football Club - Jet black with an effervescent off white top. Rich toasted notes, some pine and citrus hints, bit of a herbal chocolate undertone, with a nice tart fruity hop finish.

440ml can poured at Golcar United Football Club - Hazy golden body, thin white head. Tropical fruits, pineapple, citrussy hops with a bit of winter spruce character. Very fresh, but let down by being a bit on the thin side.

Cask at Wigan Central, Wigan. Pours a dark (almost very dark) reddish-brown with a small foamy tan head and good lacing. The aroma has malts, almonds and a hint of chocolate. In the mouth it is quite sweet but with a little underlying bitterness. Malts to the fore again in the flavour, plus hints of honey and crusty bread. A little bitterness in the slightly dry finish. This is decent – plenty of flavour for its strength.

This Easter Weekend also sees the Rochdale Ale Trail in full flow, an official event with the local authorities with a t-shirt handed out those who visit all nine venues. The only problem with that is two of those only usually consider ale as an afterthought. I won't be obtaining a t-shirt today, but I was told those venues are making an effort to put something decent on hand pull this long weekend. This brew is a decent one at the Flying Horse Hotel. A tad stewed in its creamy tropical fruitiness, it's smooth and easy enough for its strength.

Another last beer for 2024, this time in the local 'club'. Hazy dank golden appearance, but with a glow. Crisp keg pour of a solid enough regular brew in this style. Hoppy in the main.

Greenhead Beer Festival 2024. Hazy darker amber coloured in appearance. A hoppy bitter in taste, although its sweetened bitterness remains dominant, with a stewed fruitiness attached.

Bottle. Bier Huis Ossett. Them Norwegian blokes do my fucking nut in. They need to find a drink they actually like. Anyway. Faint haze on a pale gold. Seems a bit fizzy this so there’s a good ole John Merrick swede here. Nose has light fresh pale malts. Whiff of honeysuckle. Some pineapple. Some piny notes. Taste has some sweetness getting moderately bitter. Light to medium body with a high carbonation that spoils things slightly. Moderate bitterness to finish. Decent. Shame about the fizz.
