First ratingInitial Rating Date: 11/24/200630 cl bottle from a friend in Holland.Labeled 7.3%.Clear dark ruby red color, huge tan head. Chocolate smooth scent with a touch of burnt malt. Lots of chocolate and some raisin taste, some acid as well. Full mouthfeel. Sweet aftertaste. Low bitterness. Turns shady once the yeast sediment is poured in. You don’t feel the 7.3% in it at all. It was best before this summer, so the raisin and slight Madeira might come from ageing.7/4/7/4/16=3.8RerateBottle - ceramic, at WBC Denver, April 11 2014.Clear dark brown color, big teal head. Sweet, malty, light phenolic scent. Sweet, light metallic, phenolic (a bit) taste. Sweet, apple aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, low bitterness.7/5/8/3/16=3.9

(30 cl bottle from a friend in Holland) Thin sweet malt and canned corn scent. Clear golden color, big white head. Thin malty and a bit fruity taste. Medium mouthfeel. A sweet candy like aftertaste. A bit too sweet for me.

Found this beer all over Rotterdam. Really cheap at the hostel, but the cups were not clean and added a soapy flavour that I did not find in it at other places. Overall, a nice slightly bitter beer with a kind of pale color. Simple, but rather sweet (in both ways).

Small white head quickly dissolves. Deep yellow body. Sweet watery caramel aroma with marzipan notes, disappointingly weak and simple. Sweetish watery taste with grain notes. Dry metallic aftertaste. Well. This wasn’t very exciting. (0.33l bottle.)

Small yellow-brown head, fast gone over nearly black beer. Old books, vanilla, bit of licorice and mint, and generally a bit sweetish. Thinnish flavour with foremost licorice and/or drop taste, like childrens’ japthee (made from licoricesweets). A tad roasty, but whereas the nose had something reminiscent of mint, here I’d say chewing gum - sorbitol sweetened as Oakes shrewdly remarked. Bit cola-like finish. Thin, thin, thin and artificially sweetened and upped. It’s called Dubbel, I know. But a dubbel from this abbey is a VERY Dutch dubbel, indeed. Zuinigjes an!

Big beige creamy head; deep dark intensely red body. Faint sweetish aroma with licorice notes. Light, sweetish taste with strong roasty licorice overtones, wild berries, and marzipan. Delicate, harmonic, and balanced. This is exceptionally well made, and very good. Very drinkable. (0.25l on draft.)

Bottle. Amber color with a nice though disappearing beige head. The aroma is sweet, fruit, with notes of caramel, while the flavor is sweet and quite hoppy dry.
