(Had a bomber recently and it was even better than the growler I had last.year - so bitter, but so tasty) Growler - clear light copper - minimal head and lacing - nose is dank as all get out - dank, resinous, pine, earth, grapefruit, orange zest - clean, moderate sweetness underneath to balance - lean, clean malt sweetness up front sets the stage for the hops and then gets the hell out of the way - dries out pretty significantly as some potent citric and woody hops arrive on the scene, bringing strong bitterness, but no abrasiveness, as is so often the case in these big ipas - moderate sweetness returns to balance in the finish - very well-masked alcohol - my only complaint is that the body is a little light, making it far too easy to drink for something so strong - quite a bit of tropical character as it warms - slight oiliness near the finish - extreme and strong, but balanced and easy to drink - I don’t often like double ipas these days, but when I do, they taste like this.

Pours a clear light amber - rather fizzy pour - moderately sustained head - nose is crisp/crackery and doughy/bready, with a fair amount of earthy, woody, lightly peppery hops in the mix - carbonation is full but frothy in the mouth - body is on the thin side - up front, the flavor has a light, brisk, mildly tea-like character - the middle and finish, however, are fairly dry and crackery - finish is moderately bitter - hop character is woody, lightly spicy - easy drinking but fairly flavorful - a good example of the style - not bad, Larry, not bad.

Tap at Rattle’N’Hum, NYC, 20/05/13. Pitch black with a dirty tan head that retains well, good lacing ensues. Nose is roast malt, bitter chocolate, mineral notes, light espresso, touch of alcohol. Taste comprises chocolate maltesers, molasses, roast malt, sugars, touch of booze, leather. Full bodied with fine carbonation, booze evident in the finale. Ok impy stout, the alcohol is pretty well integrated but this is a few notches short of top draw.

Location: Sampled at Tap NY, 4/27/13, Rating #3000!
Aroma: The nose is full of hops with some citrus/tropical fruits as well as pine/resin
Appearance: This one pours a clear golden-orange color with a white head
Flavor: The taste is similar, with a big fruity flavor, decent sweetness, and a big bitter finish
Palate: The body is medium, and it has a really nice, easy to drink mouthfeel to it
Overall Impression: I decided to make my favorite beer from Tap rating #3000. Anyway, great job with this one guys! One of the best new IIPAs that I have tried recently, and an absolute standout of a beer. I have nothing but good things to say here.

Bottle. Better Beer Of The Month Club.Slightly hazy amber with a big stable frothy off white head. Pleasant citric and floral hops aroma with pine needles notes and a bit of malt. Flavor has some malt sweetness with a bit of caramel, citric hops and a nice lingering bitterness, a bit piney. Medium-bodied, maybe just a bit over-carbonated. A good well-hopped easy-drinking APA.

12 oz. bottle, bonused to me by BrewtopiaofPJ (thanks Mark), pours a clear copper golden with a small off-white head. Aroma is pretty standard, with crackery crystal malt and very mild floral hops. Flavour is almost non-existent, with metallic crystal malts and muted floral hops. Not see what the point is of making such a tasteless and boring beer. Not good.

Whole Foods, Bowery 355ml ($3): Pours opaque black with a creamy tan head. Aroma is chocolate, pine, fresh coffee, and a hint of booze. Taste is very smooth. The piny hops still taste fresh and nice. Nicely bitter and mildly sweet. There ain’t nothing extreme or brutal about this, as this is very nice and smooth. I could have probably chugged the entire bottle in one go if I had wanted to do so. A welcome surprise.

Bottle. Pours clear orange amber with a medium beige head. Aroma is pine, caramel, honey, a touch of, ummm, urine? Flavor is the same, minus the piss, medium sweet and lightly bitter. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel.
