Description
Artisanally brewed in Amsterdam since 2011.

Combining influences from the rich European beer culture with a non-conformist attitude.

From a family heritage of Swedish farm brewers and trained by the masters of ale and porter in England, we ended up in the Netherlands to create our own microcosm in the world of beer.

Inspired by the lesser known sides of European brewing culture and devoted to uncommon artisanal techniques, Butcher's Tears makes distinctive beers that progress beyond fashion and convention.

Pours a clear golden colour and a firm somewhat rocky white head with good retention. Aroma's: fruity, sourish, and, of course, your typical BT mossy yeast. Retronasal follows this mostly, although there also is light sweertness. Flavour is light moderate sweet, light fruity sour and a hint of bitter. Medium bodied. Good carbonation. Long finish with moderate earthy bitterness. Not bad actually.

Clear and brown with lasting head. Aroma and flavour have initial malt sweetness with some dried fruit. Finish becomes more bitter. Slightly burnt notes. Quite piney like a forest floor.

33 cl. bottle shared with Suus @ Alex and Suus. Dark golden with a white head. Wood smoke and peat aroma combined with Belgian farmhouse aromas and fruity yeastiness. Reminds me a bit of the Vandestreek Surf 'n Turf. Sweet taste with a bitter smokey finish. Interesting and tasty beer but not everyone's favorite I think.

Bottle at the brewery. Slight hazy dark amber with small beige head. Creamy, soft pineapple, dankjuivy hops, light roasted malts and caramel, quite some grassy notes and sweet fruit blossoms. Over medium sweet and bitter. Over medium bodied with oily feel. I like these Butcher's Tears IPAs. Decent stuff.

Tap at the brewery. Black with huge fluffy tan head. Deep roast, very earthy, dead leaves. Then some sweet chocolate, coffee, toffee, blackberries and blueberries. Over medium sweet and bitter. Full bodied. Quite nice, but it smells slightly like cow dung.

Bottle at the brewery, half a year past the best before date. Seems like they mostly sell vintage beers here 😄 Clear amber with small beige head. Sweet malts, sweet spruce, herbal candy, light smoke, caramel, pine candy. Quite sweet and medium bitter. Solid medium bodied. Quite OK but a bit too much herbal candy for me.
