Description
Started brewing in 1995 by two former employees of Smiles Brewery using the same plant as Henstridge Brewery.
Moved to Siston Lane, Bristol in the summer of 1999.
Having outgrown these premises a further relocation to their current site at Units 3-7 Caxton Industrial Estate, Crown Way, Warmley, Bristol was carried out during March 2004.
A 50 barrel brewplant is used. A small on-site brewery was installed at their new (2013) Graze pub in Bath and was used to brew Platform 3 beer (originally 5.7%, latterly 4.5%) and the occasional special.
The beers branded as Beerd were from a small-batch plant within the main brewery at Warmley.
Mid 2016 brewery bought out by St. Austell brewery, with the inevitable cessation of the Beerd brand and the brew plant in Bath.
Production of Bath Ales cask range has been reduced to just Gem, with the spare capacity used by St. Austell for overflow production of Tribute and other St. Austell beers.
Since late 2025 Bath Ales became just a brand of St. Austell

500ml bottle at the 17th Feb 2016 Shrewsbury Beer Exchange Group meeting: cheers Mike for this ’tick’. It’s a Ginger beer and tastes/smells and looks like one: I don’t like Ginger flavoured beers. Scored objectively.

500ml bottle @ Shrewsbury Beer Share, courtesy of Mike. Pours clear gold, white head. Aroma is pure ginger root. Taste continues with largely root ginger flavours and a dry finish. Not massively into root ginger, so can’t say this is for me.

500ml bottle @ Shrewsbury Beer Share, Feb 16, courtesy of Mike. Pours dark brown, small tan head. Spicey pepper aroma. Taste is peppery, old kitchen spice cupboard with added must and tobacco tin on the finish. Not for me.

Decent tasty porter you can relax with by the fire in a dark pub on a cold evening.
Black body with a fine tan head. Ok intensity in the aroma. Medium body and a soft carbonation. Toffee, quite roasted and some crystal malt in the flavor.

Bottle. Appearance - close to opaque black but with some red chinks. Off white almost fawn head. Nose - toffee and biscuits. Taste - more toffee than biscuits. Was hoping for some malt or hop bitterness on the finish. Some hazelnuts in there too. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy yet crunchy texture and a finish that could be fresher. Overall - a solid bitter but as mentioned earlier it could do with more bitterness on the finish.

330ml bottle, no 1269, from Skinnyviking, many thanks. Shared with Finn. Hazy apricot body. Filmy layer, dotted spots to the glassware. Dried fruits and caramel to the nose. Taste of earthy malts, almond and apricot followed by a warming dried fruity ending. Fine bodied. Pleasing (Tromsø 16.12.2015).
