Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours hazy amber with a foamy beige head. Sort of a warm malt aroma with definite hints of diacetyl. Near med body. It is a tad buttery. Which sort of makes the malt go toffee. Very malty, but not too sweet, and there does seem enough bitter to balance. Far from exciting, but it does seem to have used a fair amount of ingredients. There’s substance.

Nice. Pretty balanced for a IIPA, not over the top hoppy.

Bomber poured into English pint. Pours a gorgeous hazy copper-orange hue with a thick rocky head that retains itself admirably and leaves some nice lace. Aroma is citrus powder drink, caramel, bread. Taste starts out sweet; as it rolls over the tongue it turns sour and finishes bitter. More like an American amber than an ESB; more sour than either styles, though (maybe because it’s expired?). Carbonation is medium-high, body is full. Not bad.

On tap at The Porch in Hayden, ID. Subdued aromas of caramel malt, some floral notes. Pours a clear copper hue with creamy lace. Taste is slightly sweet with no bitterness. This beer is nothing like an IPA. It’s floral and fruity with some honey; no IPA hallmarks, however. Highly carbonated, medium bodied. What is this thing I’m drinking? Is is truly Northern Lights IPA or did they hook up the wrong keg on accident (maybe a beer they’ve had for awhile that they want to get rid of, the conspiracy theorist in me thinks; or maybe the waitress gave me someone else’s glass perhaps?)? I’m leaning towards NOT Northern Lights IPA, but who knows for sure? There are so many variables that can go wrong when you’re not pouring from a keg you tapped yourself.

Draught at the brewpub. Hazy orange/amber, small head. Strong lychee, grapefruit aroma. Mid sweet with clean mouthfeel. Salty and grainy. Resiny grapefruit dominates, long resiny bitteress. Nicely flavourful bit a bit aggressive.
