Keg at the Cambridge Brewhouse. Light golden, hazy, with a tick foamy white head. Not getting a lot from the aroma: light saison yeast and citrus notes. Tastes surprisingly tart for a saison, with a fruity hoppy bitter sourness obscuring the sweet yeast. Lime sherbet in the aftertaste. It’s not bad, although I really want more of something. There’s not a lot Cosmo-esque about this except for the lime, and it’s low on that spicy Saison ’twang’.

Chelmsford Beer Festival. KeyKeg. Opaque dark brown beer, tidy tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, decent (but not excessive) fine carbonation. Juicy dark malts, some roasty bitterness. Spicy licorice. Dark chocolate, fruity. More spicy licorice. Crisp finish. Well it’s certainly flavoursome but it wants something sweeter in here. The roast and licorice got slightly opressive after a while.

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Cask. Not sure if this is the Citra version. Lightly hazy amber beer, good bubbly off white head. Light and smooth palate, reasonable fine carbonation. LIght malts, sweet and with a little malt cream. Good bright orange squash and marmalade. Sweet floralness, Some candy fruits. Limey tropical fruits. Smooth semi dry finish. Loads going on here, good stuff. But probably not Citra!

Cask (gravity) @ 33th Pigs Ear Beer and Cider Festival 2016, at The Round Chapel in Hackney, London, England. [ As Pig & Porter Cast No Shadow ].Clear dark red brown colour with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, good to fair lacing, mostly lasting to diminishing, off-white to light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, dark malt, chocolate, moderate to heavy hoppy, pine, grapefruit - licorice. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, grapefruit - pine, hoppy, roasted, dark malt, dry. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. IMO: very Black IPA alike ;O) [20161201] 8-3-8-3-16

Keg tap at the Old Bicycle Shop, Cambridge. Light yellow, hazy. A bit of spotty head and quite noticeable lacing. Low aroma of orange and mango with a touch of pineapple and some sweet malt. Taste is much improved from the aroma. It starts sweet but the bitter hoppiness sneaks in, taking over and rounding off the finish. More mango in the finish. Certainly enjoyable, although there’s something missing when compared to a proper session IPA.

Tried at the Stoneworks, Peterborough. Deep opaque black colour with a thin tan head. Aroma and taste has dark burnt sugars, roasted malt and rum. Full rich body with obvious alcohol.

Cask at Euston Tap (East). Pours cloudy amber orange with a small lasting white head. Aroma of light tropical and citrus fruit, hop, malt and very lightly spiced. Medium plus sweetness, moderate to light bitterness. Medium body, slight oily chalky texture, soft carbonation.
