From a bottle shared at the DC RB gathering Memorial Day weekend 2017. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Flavors of dark chocolate, coffee and wood. Bitter roast finish.

12 ounce bottle. Amber orange pour is topped by a large foamy beige head. Toasted malt nose has a pronounced pineapple juice note. First sip hints at toasted malt and spicy hops. Notes of pineapple and citrus rule the roost. Finishes dry and peppery with a crisp brief aftertaste.

Poured into a pilsener glass, the appearance was a golden yellow color with a nice transparency about it. Carbonation rose at a steady pace to fill a finger’s worth of white foamy head. Sly lace.
The aroma had a light earthy/grassy spice, touch of corn, some biscuits, and wood. Slight floral, semi-ctirus at the very end.
The flavor somewhat had the sweetness of a pilsener with a modified grassy sweetness to it. No aftertaste. Finished fairly crisp.
The palate was between light and medium bodied with a good sessionability about it. Carbonation felt good. ABV felt good.
Overall, pretty good pilsener that I would want again if I could get it.

Given the ABV, I treated this as an abnormal brown ale, imperial more or less and opted for my snifter.
The appearance was a dark brown color with a rocky foamy off white head that dissipated at a slow pace. Subtle wisps of messy lace.
The aroma had some strong sweet and roasted nuts, caramel/toffee malts, dark fruits, molasses, allspice and clove. Light woodiness.
The flavor leaned towards the sweet side encompassing all of the previously mentioned aromas - sweet and roasty with a nice clean smooth aftertaste and finish.
The palate was about medium bodied with a good sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt good. ABV felt good too.
Overall, if ratebeer ever classified imperial brown ales to be a style, this would be at the top of the list.

Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a burnt bronzed copper color with a thin wisp of a little white semi-foamy head. Quietly dissipated and left some concave sliding lace.
The aroma had some sweet caramel/toffee malts, sweet rye, subtle pine/resin, crisp citrus pulp and a touch of earthiness at the end.
The flavor leaned towards the sweet side but made a good effort to try and bring the earthy hops in to blend. Nice aftertaste of the blend. Finish was mainly sweet.
The palate was about medium bodied with a good sipping quality about it. Carbonation was there, seemed perhaps just shy of where it was supposed to be. ABV felt fine.
Overall, I think this is an aged bottle, but I don’t see any dates, only reason why I proceeded was because it seemed like everything turned out pretty good. Slightly makes me wonder what this is like fresh.
