Bottle from Waitrose. Deepish gold ber with thin white head. It’s a decent fruity premium bitter. Some peppery hop on the finish. Decent malts. It’s actually a good example of what an ESB should be. Fine.

Bottle from Waitrose, Ashford. Clear amber with lasting beige head. Yes it’s a bitter really. Some spicy Goldings that come through as almost marzipan-esque. It’s not exactly drinkable but it is definitely interesting and I do like the hop sting on the finish. It’s somewhere between a golden ale and a bitter. Fine.

Bottle - Sweet malts, honey, apple and apricot. Clear orange with a thin beige head. Slight hops, booze, caramel and a hoppy bitter finish. Body is a bit thin and overall this is not my cup of tea.

Bottle from Waitrose. Whilst you’re out buying one, also buy a copy of Willie’s Chocolate Bible. Nip back home and turn to page 224 and make the Orange, Almond, Ginger and Bitter Chocolate Cake. Drink the beer with a piece of the cake. Outstanding.

33cl bottle from Waitrose. Hazy gold. lasting white head. It has some esters on the aroma, but some spicy Belgian blond hop aroma too. Spicy Belgian blond. Typical of the style but done well. Soft and simple but spicy hoppy finish which is attractive.

Bottle from Waitrose and drunk at home on my chase of Theis. Hazy pale gold with no head. It’s a still cider. You know what? Westons can produce some decent cider when they want to. Almost a creamy apple aroma. Still in the mouth. Interesting apple fruit flavours in the mouth. Smooth yes, quite poised and sophisticated. If this was a female line of clothing it would be a crisp white Chanel blouse. Quite impressive. No alcohol present. Very slight tannin which does build. Yes becomes quite parching. I liked it very much. The apples almost explode in the mouth. Starchy, dry, almost austere, but classier than that. Wow.

Bottle from Waitrose, drunk at home. Clear gold with bubbles rising but no head. A slightly sour apple aroma. I like the apple flavour in this. It’s different. Some apple pie flavour. Distinctive and quite attractive. Even a bite of tannin on the gums. Dryish finish. Quite impressed. Easy drinking but with enough character to make it interesting. I’d certainly have it again as a thirst quencher. Quite parching really for a supermarket cider. Definitely drying. Tasty.

Bottle from Waitrose, Rickmansworth. Poured a clear golden with a white head and visible carbonation. Aroma of grass and some sweet fruit. Initial sweet flavours of orange, grape and sweets followed by some light hop bitterness.

Pretty unremarkable beer this, really. A sweetness dominates proceedings. Can’t imagine wanting more than a couple. A bit thin.

Aroma: Juicy orange and mandarin with a slightly metallic note.

Appearance: Hazy golden body with a medium white head. Lively carbonation. Light lacing.

Taste: Orange, mango, yeast and white pepper. Almost sour finish.

Palate: Medium body with an oily texture. Fizzy carbonation.

Overall: Not a patch on other Belgian beers I’ve tried but this is very good value.
