Bottle. A black one, or at least really dark brown, topped by a dense, finger-thick dark beige head. The aroma has quite a lot of Christmas spices, with roasted malts, cocoa powder and some burnt notes. Even though it’s quite spiced, the spicyness feels well integrated both in the aroma and the flavor. There’s a little sweetness in the flavor, well balanced by bitterness, but it’s mostly on the dry side. Spices, hints of charcoal and dark chocolate, some cocoa and quite a lot of roasted malts. There’s a little sourish touch, wonder if the ginger is causing it, doesn’t really matter, because it fits nicely with the rest of the flavors. A bit thin on the palate, but considering the ABV it’s fine. Nice carbonation level. Roasted, spiced and lightly burnt finish with a sourish touch in the very end. This tiny brewery really amazes me. All the beers we found were good, most very good actually, and the lady running the operation have no brewing experience prior to Rein Drikke, and the equipment is far from high tech. 140622

Bottle, at Cafe Dublin, batch 23. A hazy amber beer with an amber hue. A small off-white head on top. The aroma and flavor both have some yeast, could easily do without that. Some caramel, a generic fruityness and some piney notes in the aroma. There’s a faint cocoa touch on the palate, it’s quite bitter, and with a pleasant carbonation. Full to medium body, quite dry. Lasting finish with a decent bitterness. There’s cocoa, some bread, grass and a generic fruityness too. Some herbal notes. Overall, a bit yeasty, especially in the aroma, but besides that it’s a fine brew. 140622

Bottle. A lightly unclear brown beer topped by a small, dense, dark beige head that lasts. The aroma is mostly roasted, with some burnt notes and a touch of prunes. Quite meaty too. It’s of course thin on the palate, it’s dry and pleasantly carbonated, with flavors of roasted malts and coffee grit, some meaty hints and quite a lot of hoppy bitterness. Lasting roasted and bitter finish. Although light bodied and at a low alcohol level, it’s a fine brew. Tasteful and quenching and well worth a revisit. 140621

Bottle. #32. A lightly hazy dark golden beer with a dense, off-white head of finger-thick heigth. Some lacings. The aroma is a bit weak I think, lacking a bit on the hoppy freshness IPA’s are known for. There’s also a touch of cocoa I’ve found in all the Rein Drikke beers. Wonder if that’s the algae kicking in? Some maltyness are present too. Caramel maltyness, some cocoa powder and a good dash of bitterness in the flavor. Pine cones and resin hints in the back, and some citrus notes. Full body, soft carbonation, quite dry, with a bitter and lightly malty finish. Yet another quite solid beer from Rein. Not very true to style this beer either, but it’s solid craftmanship anyway. 140621

Bottle. A really dark brown beer, seemingly almost clear, with a dense, finger-thick light beige head. Some lacings. Roasted malts, some burnt down campfire, a touch of dark chocolate and something meaty, and some prunes in the aroma. It’s dry and pleasantly carbonated, perhaps a bit too much carbonation, but it’s pleasant anyway. Full to medium body. Roasted and burnt malts, some dark chocolate and prunes and a bitterness that deals easily with the remaining sweetness. Lasting finish. The best grocery store strength porter in Norway? Not sure, but it’s a really fine one. 140621
