Can. Mitchell’s Wines. Clear dark chestnut brown. Decent enough tan froth. Looks ok. Then there’s the beer. Thin watery fizzy piss buoyed by flavourings In lieu of actual brewing proficiency. Absolute tripe.

Tap. Rutland. Hazed pale gold. Stunner of a swede, even by Kernel’s standards. Nose is big on the ripe melon and sweet stone fruit. Some piny and herbal notes. Clean grain. Taste is semi sweet with robust pithy bitterness. Plenty of body and flavour. Robust bitterness carries through to the finish.

Well that’s a bonus. Thought I’d ticked this. Bottle. Lidl box. Clear gold. Decent white foam. Was better when topped up with a hard pour. Nose has sweet-ish grain. Whiff of sourness. Ever so slightly metallic. Taste is pretty sweet up front with a bit more of the metallic thing in the bitterness. Feels a bit heavy on the palate with quite low carbonation. Bitter finish. Not the best from this box so far, by quite a way.

Bottle. Lidl. Clear gold. Soppy white foam isn’t particularly a thicc boi but it retains well and is nicely sticky. Nose has dry clean grain with the hops coming across unripe pear hedge clippings. Clean and pretty crisp overall with a moderate grassy bitterness. Hint of bready sweetness. Crisp grassy finish. Nice one.

Bottle. Lidl. Clear gold. Solid foam. Nutty and a tad vegetal. Whiff of (good) sourness. Privet leaf and mulch on the hop front. Taste is semi sweet with a leafy bitterness. Drinks decent overall. Moderate bitter finish. The vegetal thing is a tad off putting but it didn’t stop this getting smashed in about 5 minutes.

Can. Mitchell’s Wines. Hazed gold. Not too milky which is nice. Head isn’t up to much as per a Triple Point pale ale. I’m convinced it’s the gluten free thing that’s responsible. There’s a bit of a struck match thing going on here, but otherwise it’s peachy and citrusy with notes of lemon juice and lime peel. Taste is semi sweet with a fair amount of dryness. Bitterness is pithy and oily. Drinks well at the 6.2. Probably would have guessed 5.6ish. Lean bitter finish. Barring that struck match thing it’s a good example of style and doesn’t err towards the milky shite that most UK brewers seem to think NEIPAs are about.
