Can. Mitchell’s Wines. Nearly black. Nicely thick soppy lasting beige foam. Nose has sweet pudding although I’m not convinced cloves, of which this has plenty, is any part of a sticky toffee pudding. Whatever. It’s a bit overwhelming. Taste is fairly sweet with a decent amount of vine fruit and roast malt bitterness. Drinks well, barring the clove thing. Light bitter finish.

Can. Mitchell’s Wines, I think. Clear very dark brown. Thick and soppy lasting semi lacing pale tan foam. Looks boss. Nose has Biscoff biscuit but it’s nicely understated and not too sickly as it could have been. Decent lightly fruity ashy malt notes. Taste is fairly sweet up front with a light vinous roast malt bitterness. Smooth with good depth of flavour. Light bitter finish. Best Abbeydale bev in a good while.

Bottle from the shop across the road from the Loon Factory. I think. Neck label states 2021/22. I’d guess this is the one and one version of this beer despite there being multiples on here. Anyfuckinghow. Misted orange gold. Slim but dense, lasting white foam. Nose is expectedly grapey and vinous. Woody stalk and such like. Lightly sulphurous. Some wheat and chalk. Taste is dry and semi tart. Very quenching. In fact it’s pretty mouth stripping in its dryness. Minimal acidity though. Light tart dry vinous finish. Good grape character throughout. I’m glad these are 375s to be honest.

Can via the online shop. Pours a fairly lifeless medium gold. Slim ring of white. Nose has booze soaked wood. Wheat. Some barley sugar. Taste is pretty sweet with a soft tannic character. Some tartness. Overall it’s fairly drinkable, especially at the 8%, but as it stands it’s a bit flat and dull. Light tart finish. I’ve another 2 cans of this and I suspect it will get better (livelier) with a bit of time on them.

Tap. Old Shoe, Sheffield. This is the first beer from Mills’ side project that is going to be mostly lagers, from my understanding. Anyway. Side pour dispense. Lightly misted yellow gold. Slim dense lacing lasting bright white foam. We’re already off to a good start. Nose has bready malts. Old lemon. Whiff of dried orange rind. Some mineral and a light chalky note. Some leathery lightly sweaty funk. Taste has a fleeting sweetness but mostly this is clean mineraly citrus forward bitterness. Light and a little dry on the palate. Crisp and super clean overall. Tight fizz. Crisp firm bitter finish. Glorious, like I knew it would be.

On tap at Thornbridge. Clear orange gold. Slim semi lacing white foam. Nose has sweet orange. Candied peel. Light resinous notes. Clean pale malt. Taste has some sweetness but is mostly fairly dry and zesty citrus bitter. Drinks easy. Nice bitterness to finish. Solid.
