Bottle from HoTM. It pours oily jet black with a small brown head. The aroma is dark roasted malt, charred, umami, liquorice, dark chocolate, pipe tobacco, burnt toast, molasses, rocky road, whisky soaked oak, savoury and saline notes. The taste is slick, oily, thick, chewy, dark roasted malt, toasty, bitter - sweet character, fruitier than on the aroma, jammy fruits, bramble, tangy raspberry, dark chocolate, treacle, whisky soaked oak, slightly charred Dundee cake, warming booze and toasty brown sugars with a smooth whisky soaked fruit cake finale. Fulsome body, fine carbonation and slick mouth feel. Flavourful, rounded and unctuous.

Can from Yutaka, London. It pours hazy deep amber, approaching brown with a small bubbly white head. The aroma is sweet, sappy, oily, toffee, brown bread, candied peel, orange marmalade, fruit cake, cinnamon bun and damp leaf. The taste is initially dry, bitter - sweet, sappy, oily, pine, resin, brown bread, malt loaf, toffee, candied orange, grapefruit and a touch of spice with a sticky finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Quite a malt - driven old school west number. Fair.

Can from The Marine Hotel, Stonehaven. It pours dirty blonde with a small fluffy white head. The aroma is fragrant, floral, zingy, lime sherbet, elderflower, gooseberry, white grape, pear, soor plooms and some biscuit. The taste is crisp, firmly dry, touch tart, puckering , grape must, crunchy green fruits, gooseberry, white grape, pear skin, apple cake, floral accents and a touch of spice with a drying finish. Average body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Lovely aroma, perhaps sits a bit heavy on the palate though.

Can direct from the brewery. It pours clear pale yellow with a bubbly white head. The aroma is soft, sweetish, foamy banana candy, soft wheat bread, candied citrus peel, touch of marmalade and clove spice. The taste is crispy, dry, snappy, quite clean, some bitterness, grassy, fragrant, floral, green banana, peppery, clove rock, damp grain and cracker with a drying spiced finish. Average carbonation and prickly carbonation. Decent enough Kristallweizen style beer.

Can at 5.6% from Westhill Service Station. It pours clear pale yellow - gold with a bubbly white head. The aroma is pleasing peat reek, mellow smoke, toasty grains, muffin, cereal, porridge, custard cream biscuits and a touch of orchard fruits. The taste is dry, toasty grains, cereal, light nuttiness, peat is well judged and restrained, whips of smoke, muted medicinal character, crisp biscuit, custard creams and oatcakes with a drying, toasty finale. Average body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Peat is very well integrated. Balanced and satisfying. Nice one.

Can from Yutaka London. It pours clear yellow - gold with a decent fluffy white head. The aroma is straw, grass, slightly herbal, crackery malt, rich tea biscuit and cheap white bread. The taste is crispy, dry, snappy, grassy, straw, herbal vibes, toasty grains, florals and slightly soapy accents with a a dry, toasty finish. Average body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Decent lagerbier.

Can from Yutaka, London. It pours deep reddish - amber with a decent off-white head. The aroma is sappy, oily, sticky toffee, piney, spruce, leafy, brown bread, raisin and sticky marmalade. The taste is firmly dry, bitter, oily, sappy, resinous, green, leafy, pine needles, varnished wood, peppery spice, toffee, brown bread and some booze with a resinous finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Old school west coaster IPA. Sits pretty heavy on the palate, but has good boost level. Fair.
