Pours a slightly hazy deep amber colour with a big creamy-frothy warm cap, great retention and very nice creamy full lacing. Big burnt wood aromas at first pour. Then, some banana notes from the weiss comes out as the smoke calms down. The taste is kind of sweet with the smoke on the side. Doesn’t really sit well. Notes of maple sap in the finish. Not a fan of the mix. Much preferred their marzen version.

Pours cloudy amber-golden, almost no head. Simple yet intense aromas: smoke, coal, caramel. Medium body, a little watery. Smoke on the water... I mean on the aftertaste (I had to do it). Simple but nice.

I’m going to go about rating this beer different than usual. It’s not about the first sip, which is all salty smoke sausage, it’s about the taste after acclimatizing to the sausage-fest flavour and then enjoying the ride. Once I’m over the sausage-smack to the face, you begin to pick up a nice sweetness that helps balance out the smoke blast, with softer hay malts that undoubtedly is thanks to the unsmoked wheat in this brew. Overall not bad, but not a sipper, commit and enjoy.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 22B). Bottle 50 cl - Batch LVQ. AROMA: overall smokiness aroma with almost imperceptible banana notes. APPEARANCE: dark copper color and translucent. thin white head with average retention. TASTE: overall smoked flavour with a background wheat note. low bitterness with a semi-dry finish. PALATE: medium-low body with average carbonation. OVERALL: a smoked weizen with too much smokiness that overwhelms the base beer. still very interesting, tough.

500ml bottle. Pours dark brown with a big beige head. Aroma is smoke, burnt wood and a bit of wheat in the background. Taste is sweet smoke followed by fruity sourness. Definitely an interesting one.

Brown color with a creamy off-white head, good lasting and nice lacework. Aroma has notes of wood, light wheat and toasted malts. Flavor is toasty, slightly sweet, some yeasty notes and wooden traces. Slightly bittery in the final with wooden hints on palata with good duration.

500 ml. bottle @ home. Procured from Dranken Geers. BBF 03/2015. Small GUSHER. Resulting in a first glass that was almost entirely just foam. Very dark amber, brown, slightly off-white huge head. Wonderful lacing. Nose is huge delicious Schlenkerla smoke, huge amounts of thick umami smoke, smoked wood,…. Incredible. Taste is banana upfront, leading into sweetish meaty smoke, Black Forest ham, German yeast, branches, Schlenkerla smoke, interesting mix of very sweet banana & smoke, cooked brown apples, lots of smoke & lots of caramel, faint fish guts, brown sugar. Caramel body. Drinks like water. Not sure if it entirely blends both characteristics but it is a highly unique and delicious offering all the same.

Érdekes módon nekem ez jobban ízlik mint a marzen, nem annyira hívalkodóan búvik elő a szalonnazsír.

0,5 l bottle from bierpost, best before 1/2015, highly anticipated. Very hazy, dark reddish brown with a fluffy, stable, off-white head. There are much more good-looking beers than this. Heavy smokey aroma dominated by beechwood with hints of caramel but no signs of the typical wheat beer aromas. Really like it. The taste is still much dominated by the smoke but some sourish, fruity notes of cherry come through. The finish is just slightly bitter with a subtle metallic note. A slightly alcoholic touch is left, too. Although far away from a normal Dunkelweizen, the taste is very pleasant. Creamy and smooth mouthfeel, medium to full body, soft carbonation. At first, I was a bit disappointed but as the beer warmed up a little, it was just awesome and I highly enjoyed it. Want to drink it again!
