Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a dark brown foamy head with some retention and some lacing notes. Aroma of huge chocolate and fudge notes with some floral coffee notes with some vanilla and bourbon notes with light lactose notes. Taste is also a mix of huge chocolate and fudge notes with some floral coffee notes and some vanilla and bourbon with some sweet lactose notes offsetting any rough edges. Body is full with creamy texture and good carbonation and no real warming alcohol notes are perceptible. Nice coffee/bourbon stout with a nice creamy feel and perfect chocolate/fudge notes.

O:7.99 V:3.65 G:8.375 C:4.5 G:16.0 T:40.52

Bottle from a trade in San Diego - many thanks, Jonathan C.! Vintage 2022. Cloudy black, small, stable, brown head. Intense aroma of maple syrup, burnt pancake, molasses, vanilla bean, clove, chocolate sauce, bourbon, tobacco. Taste has very sweet maple syrup, molasses, pancake and milk chocolate; edge of vanilla, soft coffee roast and even a vague umami element. Earthy hoppy finish offers lots of lingering woody maple, brown sugar, sugared coffee and boozy bourbon alcohol. Full body, thick oily texture, soft carbonation. Intense, sweet and chewy - just lacks some elegance to be a real masterpiece.

Backlog Oct 21. Black body, with a small, creamy, dark beige head. Aroma of bourbon, wood, booze, dark chocolate, cocoa, tobacco, slight maple. Tastes great, similar, really smooth and balanced. Full oily mouthfeel, with a low carbonation. Finishes smooth, slightly boozy, with bourbon, wood coffee, dark chocolate. Vedy tasty, really balanced, with lovely barrel notes, while not too boozy. 8 / 4 / 9 / 4 / 17

Label claims 'only' 14% ABV Small short-lived russet head over jet-black syrup, sorry, beer. Black if sweetened coffee, coffeesyrup, maple syrup. Sweet, with vanilla and Bourbon in front of sweet-bitter roast. Faint madeira-sweet with a touch of mineral. Viscous as few. Thick, despite all the alcohol (and the heat thereof), as eating & drinking at the same time. Very special beer. Google translates this as "wooden blood" - whatever that might mean, it's OK with me.
