Draught Beautiful amber clear beer with a small whitish head. Actually more malt than hops, when they are made to rise swirling, they’re essentially piney. Meaty yeast flavour overlying a dry, discreetly but nobly hopped ale, a certain pie bottom malts flavour underneath. Finish is severely dry-bitter. Light to medium bodied. This must be a Fuggles packed beer: before this kind yields such flavour, it needs loads. Thanks to Gerard for pointing me towards it.

(On tap) Beautiful, clear amber with a white head. Vaguely floral, hoppy nose. Medium body with some caramel. Hoppy, floral finish without being overly bitter. Quite a pleasant session APA. 280306

Bottled. Hazy yellow colour, with mediumsized white creamy head. Aroma of wheat and weird sweetness. Flavour is sweet malty and wheaty. Long sweetish aftertaste. Not too exciting brew though.

Long overdue to revise and re-rate, first sampled in ’06 and annually since then. Enjoyed fresh and aged, in bottles and on draft. What always strikes me as excellent is the aroma… rich in hops and caramel malt, some toffee. A sweet and potent mix that is mirrored in the taste. Great hops flavors, probably my favorite element in the beer. It’s just a prime example of a sturdy American barleywine. Original rate of 3.9 entered on 4/15/06; re-rate at 4.2

Classic pale ale taste with a nice blend of hops, caramels, and floral tones. A great brew to drink anytime that always has a consistently good flavor. You can get this nearly anywhere and it always tastes fresh and vigorous.

Bottled
Cloudy pale yellow, small white head, some lace. Some Ameican hops mixed with wheaty notes in the aroma. Banana and fruity hops in the flavor. Kind of weakened version of stronger SN beers. More like pale ale than wheat beer.

I’ve had this on tap at a few places in the NY metro area so far, and I must say that it is a rather weak attempt at a scotch ale (the description at Barcade listed it as 6% alcohol, if that is any indication) - some chocolate and caramel make themselves present in the rather thin body, but otherwise this is a bland effort at an otherwise flavorful style.

Opaque ebony with a thin tan head. Aroma is of caramel, mocha, malt with the flavor is chocolate malt with a smoky-mocha hint, and the finish is a nice bitterness.
