Bottle, 12 ounces; eye: black with espresso-like foam that disappears quite quickly; nose: roasted malt, spices (smells like a spice cake I have made before); mouth: full in the mooth, foamy feel, coffee, bitter, oily texture, acrid; its acridness increases as the beer warms

Murky orange-red-brown body, medium quickly dissipating buff head. A rare unfiltered doppelbock. Bready, caramely aroma with toffee, prune, and raisin. Plummy, raisiny body with bitter, perfumey notes, caramel, and toast. Sweet aftertaste with alcohol notes. Rich and dense, this is a very tasty doppelbock. Thanks Walt!

Bottle: Poured a clear mild brown ale with a medium foamy slightly off-white head with great retention. Aroma of what I think is candi sugar is quite evident and well back by strong malt. Taste is also quite sweet, maybe even a tad too much for my liking with a dry hops finish. Not bad overall but just seems to be lacking complexity and yeast signature is way too discreet. Body is above average but could have been more full and bit more creamy. Interesting but I definitely had better beers from Victory.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Lightly hazy dark brown with a small, off-white head. Malty, somewhat vinous nose. Fairly full-bodied with sweetish, roasted accents and heaps of malt. Decent all right but fails to impress. 270106

Fresher than initial rating. Same appearance, but much more hoppy in the aroma - pine and resin. Slightly syrupy resin upfront, turning to a lasting grapefruit finish. Freshness definitely kicked it up a couple of points. Pours a deep amber into a shaker. Nice conglomerate head with steady lacing as it recedes. Earth and sneaker aromas. Resin and malt. More malt than hop. Flat with a bitter grapefruit finish. 6/4/8/4/16 = 3.8

Pours pitch black into a snifter. Cocoa colored head dissipates and creates a rim and a calder. Smells of chocolate. Taste of chocolate and coffee. Long lasting hop finish. Very nice.

02/15/07 Aged one year. Poured into a Maudite snifter. Tan pancake head with excellent retention leaves creme brulee lacing. Caramel aromas. Smooth and creamy with a slight metallic hop finish which detracts slightly. Sticky. Aroma and overall rating have slipped a point... 01/21/06. Poured into a St. Bernardus snifter. Quickly dissipating head. Deep magenta. Thick. Sweet and malty. Long, bitter hop and alcohol finish. Will age a bottle to see if it can balance out. 8/4/7/4/17 = 4.
