Early 2003 bottleBright yellow color with some cloudiness and even some darker tinges. This was a great beer. I loved the not too sweet body, with a great hop presence sometimes lacking in belgians. I wasnt challenged by the yeast or the spices, which I liked and this beer reminded me more of a an belgian pale in the nose and body. Towards the end, the alcohol kicked in and the taste rounded out with some dry peach notes and a little bit of banana clove in good balance. 7/4/8/4/18
2005 750mL bottle Downtown Liquors trippel tasting, 3/24/05. Pour reveals a bright, deep orange-golden-peach colored body, with a dense, white head, that is, sadly, quick to disipate. Aroma has some husky grains to it, biscuit, aromatic malt type thing going on. Definite apricot and nectarines esters provide a juicy, lightly tart, fruitiness, with a light hops bitterness. Flavor has some syrupy sweet pils malt, plenty of spice and a not-too-strong alcohol apparency. I can forgive the, IMHO, overuse of hops, but the body seems rather fizzy to start, and while I was hoping to come away with a thicker, fuller body, after it breathed and the carbonation died off, it just seemed lightly watery and rather dull. I do like the flavors, and it’s still a very well-made beer, slightly bucking tradition, but I would just ask for a bit more body and Belgian character.7/4/7/3/15

Light copper color, small head. Fading. Surprisingly clear with little apparent yeast sediment in the bottle, despite label's warning. Light aroma dominated by bubble gum and a slight fig presence. Flavor is pretty sweet, with fig and other slight fruit. Powerful and nearly harsh finish. Lingering burn of pure ethyl alcohol. Pretty disappointing...the alcohol presence is not masked nearly well enough. I believe the beer may have been overly attenuated producing too much alcohol while leaving too little residual sugars. Despite low hopping rates being appropriate for the style, it appears that this may have been under-hopped as well. I enjoyed the appearance and aroma of this beer, but on the whole its pretty difficult to drink. Much too spiritous. Sampled

Very strong aroma of hops. Gold and cloudy like a wheat beer. Crisp bitter taste with lots of hops and some clove. Thin. I like a pilsener, but I can't find what everyone is enjoying so much in this beer.

Hazy pale yellow in colour with a very thin white head. Smells of coriander and yeast dominate the aroma. Watery taste after first sip with a very light bodied feel, odd for a wheat. No real palatting flavour other than the subtle wheaty characteristics. Not a bad beer, but not great for the style.

Perfectly amber coloured with a thin off-white head which dissapears fast. Smells of barley, malt and a little hop. The taste is very smooth, and somewhat bland. This isn't a bad representation of the marzen style, but not the best i've seen. Worth trying if you've had Sam Adam's or Pete's and haven't been satisfied. Nothing in the aftertaste, either.

Re-rate @ Ratebeer Summer Party: Aroma of alcohol, pears, hints of orange..full maltiness...alcohol in palate with hints of pears, spices, and a long finish. Better than it was the first time I tried it, but still not stellar.
I'm the first guy who didn't fall in love with this beer? Damn. Golden amber colour. Flowery, yeasty aroma with some pepper, spice and alcohol. More of the same in the palate. On paper a good beer but I couldn't get my mind of the Unibroue 11 comparisons, and this has less style and more alcohol influence. I think I offended it by thinking about another beer, because it continued to slap me with alcohol. Old rating: 2.9

Lemony and zesty - slight spices and sweetness - cloudy yellow, nice lacing - not much else to say.

Very well masked alcohol - a little bitter for a doppelbock, but still has its share of malty sweetness - not what I was expecting, but still good - light and easy drinking for the style.
