Description
Williams Bros Brewing Company is a Scottish family-owned microbrewery, founded and operated by brothers Bruce and Scot Williams.
The Williams Bros. Brewing Co. started life in the humble ‘Glenbrew’ homebrew shop in Glasgow. The first beer brewed was the ‘Fraoch’ Heather Ale at a small 5-barrel brewery in Taynuilt, After the 2nd year of brewing in the Taynuilt brewery and with demand far out stripping supply the brothers decided to expand and also to diversify the range with five Historic Ales. These ales were produced at the new purpose built brewery and premises in Craigmill, Strathaven from 1998-2004.
In 2004 the brothers took over the ‘Forth Brewery’ at Kellibank, Alloa where Maclay’s had been contract brewing and packaging their beers since the sale of their old Alloa brewery. It was at this stage in proceedings that Heather Ale Ltd became Williams Bros. Brewing Co.

330ml can from Aldi. Clear gold, medium sized white head, nice retention and lots of lacing. Massive aromas of sweet peaches so clearly an extract was used even if it doesn't say it on the can. Taste is big juicy peaches (ooh err missus), nice although slightly synthetic, pale malts, grassy. Finish is slightly tangy, sweet, cardboardy malt, a slow creeping bitterness. Medium bodied but a slightly cloying mouthfeel. Some flaws to this one but not bad at all for the price.

440ml can from Beers of Europe. Dark purple pour with small pinkish head, nice retention; looks good. Aroma and taste is fruity and tart tayberries with a grainy malt background, quite dry but light and refreshing. Not overly complex but its a fruity tasty beer.

330ml bottle from Lidl. Light clear amber with moderate sized and well lasting white head. Aroma is caramel malts and orange, some pine. Taste is quite malty with biscuit and caramel notes coming through with citrus, mineral and pine. Alcohol warmth on the way down but not abrasive. Medium bodied, smooth, light cloyingness on the palate. Solid stuff, great value from Lidl.

Can from Beers of Europe. Pours a cloudy dark gold with small white head, OK retention. Aroma is very floral with pine and citrus zest notes. Very floral beginning to this, then a pine resin and zestiness before a herbal like dry bitterness in the finish. Medium body and carbonation, dry. Quite nice.

Can from Beers of Europe, online. Pours a pale clear gold, small white head, minimal retention Aroma of basic malts, tangy Seville orange, some grass. Taste is a pretty basic pilsner malt but there are decent grassy hops giving a good level of bitterness. The orange elevates the beer as its not overdone and gives it a nice zestiness. Light bodied with an adjunct smoothness but not unpleasant. Decent take on a pilsener.
