Pours moderately hazy/cloudy very dark brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of lightly tart cherry, peach, plum, fig, date, caramel, brown sugar, milk chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, biscuit, roasted nuts, and brown bread/crust; with light notes of smoke, oak char, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oak earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, fruity/light acidic yeast, bourbon barrels, and light earthy hop notes; with good strength. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, fruity/light acidic yeast, bourbon barrels, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness, bourbon/oak spiciness, and tartness balance; with no puckering, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness, oak spiciness, tartness, and carbonation. Medium-plus carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/chalky/acidic/tannic mouthfeel that is good. Zero warming alcohol or barrel booze for 7%. Overall this is a pretty nice barrel aged brown ale. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, fruity/light acidic yeast, bourbon barrels, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/tart/tannic/drying finish. Definitely infected, but not overwhelming on the characteristics. Feels English styled, but the mellow Lactobacillus presence is unmistakable. Nice balance of malts, bourbon barrel presence/integration, and fruity yeast; with solid earthy hops. Mildly sweet with lingering dryness. A nicely enjoyable offering for the style, despite infection.

Can thanks to Chris pours out dark brown almost black topped with a tan head. Nose is full coffee forward plenty roast malts and some ash. Taste is more of the big coffee kick and a nice roast.

Can at home. Deep brown pour. Nose is caramel and hooch. Tastes of whiskey, vanilla, earth, cocoa some coconut husk. Sweet little watery.

This was poured into a mug.
The appearance was a fairly dark brown color with a thin almond colored foamy head. Light speckled lace.
The aroma had a good rich sweet to roasty nuttiness bold and up front with a balancing caramel/toffee malt backbone. Light earthiness.
The flavor blended the nuts to the malts fairly nice, sweet and roasty. Earthiness was somewhat light. Nice aftertaste of nuts and malts. Clean roasty to sweet finish.
The feel was about medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Good carbonation and the ABV felt as suggested.
Overall, whatever government standards Great River was supposed to meet for this to be organic, I guess they did, but for a brown ale fan like myself, I’d still have this again.

16 ounce can. 7% abv. I reckon it’s no longer retired.

A: Deep brown colour, small off white head of foam, not much lacing but the foam lingers.

S: Strong smell of Bourbon with lighter notes of caramel malt and a subtle nutty character.

T: Nutty, sweet, Bourbon smack to my taste buds. No bitterness.

M: I’d call it light bodied, thin for what’s going on.

O: A goodish Brown Ale that was Bourbon barrel aged. If you’re gonna barrel age an existing beer in your portfolio, I’m on the side that says, go the full monty. Lower abv barrel aged beers kind of defeat the purpose of barrel aging. Imho of course.

A: Clear copper almost red. Firm head of foam, good lacing.

S: Pine, grapefruit, hints of mango, malty sweetness.

T: Pine and grapefruit, no tropical fruit, some sweet malt notes.

M: Medium body and carbonation.

O: Another nice West Coast style IPA.

16 oz can poured. Thanks for the can, Greg! A dense, jet black pour with a consistent tan foam head. Huge sweet indicated aroma, with milk chocolate, and a soft roast hidden behind. Thick, creamy, sweet milky chocolate constant flavor. A little too sweet for me, but I can’t complain about a sweet stout being sweet. There is a nice roasted malt character hidden in there, which I’d love to see take on a bolder role in this. Chocolate remainder late palate. Overall this drinks pretty decent. A fun stout for sure.

Can. A- Chocolate, hazelnuts. A- Golden color, clear liquid, white head. T- Chocolate, nuts. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly sweet dry finish. O- Pretty good actually. Lots of chocolate and some hazelnut. I like it.
