bottle at home ... dark red brown ... bubbly off white head ... sour wooody toffee malt ... odd musty woody malt front ... spices ... just odd and not really working at all

Bottle. Pour is a reddish brown that looks dark in the glass, but lets just a hint of red filter in when held up to the light. Head is a little under a finger of dense tan foam and aromas are typical for Indigo Imp... a bit of leather and chocolate that then give way to a sourish funk... cherries and malt vinegar, in this case. Flavor is pretty good, and this comes off as a pretty nice dark sour... nothing like the \"stout\" on the label. The start is all dark... nice leather and dusty grain, but then it quickly turns direction and head off down \"Pie Cherry Lane,\" finishing in a slight funky sour place as a bit of coffee and chocolate whirl around. I’m not totally sold on the Imp, but this one is fairly interesting and pretty well done.

Bottle at Winking Lizard. The beer is a clear golden color with a medium white head that has pretty good retention. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of bready malt and fruit. Light body with a fruity character and notes of sweet malt and yeast. The finish is fruity, malty and short. Just average overall.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Aroma is slight sweet malted, bit of spices and fruits. Flavour is malty and fruity, hints of brown sugar and spices. Ok stuff.

Bottle. Pours a very cloudy light/medium brown with a thin head and very weak aromas... brown sugar? Maybe I’m off, but I can’t pick up much of anything in the nose other than a little sweet and some non-descript spice. Flavor is odd as well... kind of that funk that I’m starting to associate with Indigo Imp... like a slightly soured version of what might otherwise be considered a Rye beer. Who the heck put this as a Dubbel? It has a sweetness to it that transitions to a kind of tart (pie cherry and peach pit) tanginess. Interesting, to say the least.

This is fiend red rye ale, not a abbey dubbel, DUH! From a bottle, looks like I’m lucky to try it. Got the bottle from vintage estagtes, nice place and nic e eye candy. Muddy dark pour which is brown but not real dark. Thin pond scum head. A sour aroma which is mild and quite farmy, YUM! . Now, this is why I like these indego imps beers, everyone I ever tried has some sour thing going on and I like that, yes very nice sour tart thing. Also, these beers never fail to be a little sizzly, and so is this. Not over the top in a ny way and i find this beer to be quite acceptable for a dubble and aint that funny, I think the beer style category for this is way off, it should be listed in the rye style, you know; specialty grain if RB hasn’t created a rye style that is. Yes because right on the label its says red rye ale. Now for the long session taste; farmy background withah absence of hop bitter ness that I am thankful for. So what makes this a dubbel? Go figure, hehheh. Even tho it is not really a dubbel, I would say if cantellon ever made a mild one, this would be it, YUM! Very nice pleasant beer drinken rye experience! THIS BEER &THIS BRAND ROCKS!

Bottle shared with Mes&Sim, Leighton and Scopey at the CP&K. Cheers! Cloudy amber beer. Little white head. Sweet malt with a trace of dried fruits. Finishes soft and dry with a little coca cola. A bit of a messy beer. Not undrinkable but too much effort required.

12oz Bottle thanks to Secret Santa. Pours out a cloudy brown with a ring as a head. Aroma was roast, infection, funk, dark fruit, coffee, and chocolate. Taste was not good. This tasting like it was an accident. A good porter that got infected and they slapped a special label on it. I think Deschutes could have done the same thing with the 09 Abyss and people would have been all over it. This one was not for me.

12 ounce bottle thanks to Deyholla. Pours a dark brown color, nearly black, with no head. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, tobacco and a tart finish. The taste is tart cherries, chocolate, roasted malts, leafy hops and a faint vegetal note. Medium bodied.
